Guest guest
My Rheumatologist is dropping my prednisone dose. My ears are burning really bad but they aren't red right now. Is that a flare coming on, or does the ear have to actually be red? Thanks! Ann

Guest guest
Dear Chuck, when my ears are in a major flare I'd like to hold a blow torch to the doctors head. Thank you for the information. My pcp says your ears don't have to be bad for flaring, it just depends on where our disease decides to attack. I have the mucus thing going on now. Drives me nuts....so that's my news....Sue

Is that a flare coming on, or does the ear have to actually be red? Thanks! Ann Hi Ann: I have had sore burning ears without going into an all out "flare." The problem that I have seen is that all of us manifest so differently. When I have the burning ears without breathing problems I don't raise the prednisone. When I have it with burning in my throat or airways I do. Like I said I have had the burning ears that don't turn very red and it usually will burn out on it's own. My doctor gives my a lot of freedom with the prednisone, he tells me to raise it when I feel and flare coming on and let him know after the fact. I'm getting to the point that I know my body pretty well but I have had to do a lot of detective work. Hope that this is not going to turn into a major flare for you. Ann Ann, In my personal opinion, from my short expirence with RP if my ears are burning i am definitly in a flare. if they are burning and not red i am still in a flare, it could be the beginning or the end of a flare but the burning is a good indication that i am flaring without a doubt. hold a cigarrette lighter to his ear for a few minutes and ask him how that feels, thats what i tell my DR. he would say " yup thats a flare " !!!............Chuck..(just my opinion)
