I know there are a few different places I've seen this recipe for

" Ranch Dressing " using mayonnaise or yogurt as the base. Here's one:

http://grainfreefoodie.blogspot.com/2009/11/ranch-dip-or-dressing.html

What I don't understand is, how can mayo and yogurt be interchangeable

for the base? It seems like if one makes it taste like ranch, then the

other wouldn't. I mean, they don't taste that similar to me.

So my question is, have any of you tried a recipe similar to this and

had success? If so, did you use mayo or yogurt? Or some combination of

the two? Thanks!

Peace =)

cooking is very flexible which, the more you do it, the more you

realize - I think their point here was that if you

need to substitute or a variation on the theme, the secondary

approaches are one way to go. It was more in the way of being

helpful rather than practicing a purist approach.

Hey Alyssa!

I suspect that they are comparing plain old mayo (not like the seasoned one from

the SCD cookbook with mustard powder, etc) to a thick yogurt. I would try some

dripped SCD yogurt- it would be tangy like Ranch, but give you a thicker

consistency!

I would think tangy yogurt would go with Ranch but the 2T. cilantro

sounds pretty strong to me for Ranch unless you just 'love' cilantro.

I love it but sometimes just a hint is better. Marilyn posted a great

sounding Ranch.
