Guest guest
Dear Sue: I am so relieved that you have been bumped up to 60 mg/day. That is what they should have done to start with and you definitely should not be decreased until you are in control!! I was started with 60 mg and it took one year to get me down to 7 mg/day. That kept me in control for a few years until my husband died and the shock of that really threw me into a relapse BIG TIME. The left side of my face started aching and swelling and at first I thought it was sinutitis. I was in England with my daughter and went to a famous ENT there and he gave me some antibiotics and told me to check with my doctor when I got home because he was sure I had more going on than just a sinus infection. The RP attacked my TMJ (temporal mandibular joint) on the left side of my face. That is my jaw in layman's terms. There was a lot of swelling and pain and I couldn't open my mouth very wide for months. It really did a lot of damage and once again I was back up to 60 mg and worked my way down SLOWLY. It's in control but I just have to put with up with the clicking and grinding because the damage is permanent. The doctor I went to at first was in Seattle and the second doctor was in San Diego and they both put me on 60 mg/day. I am now going to go to Dr. Buckner in Seattle and have told her I am now willing to go on MTX. It's taken me a long time to come to this, but I am going to give it a try. I sure hate to give up my wine though!! I wouldn't hesitate a minute discussing your feedback from the group with your rheumy. I certainly did here and he was glad for the info. I transferred to Dr. Buckner because I go to Seattle so much and this is her special field. Please don't hesitate for a minute to call for help here or just for plain old support. That's what we're all here for. Give us the pleasure of helping you!
