Guest guest
If you have been on SCD since 3/11, you can progress. The intro diet is only for a few days. Many have lost on intro initially, but if you start adding more foods this will stop. Kids with ASD are dairy free, but you can have scd cows milk yogurt and legal cheese if you tolerate it. For you, use the pecanbread stages as a general guide, but progress as you can tolerate it, since it was designed for children on the spectrum. My son and I just started SCD last week, he for ASD and me for long-standing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (loose stools, bloating, cramping, trouble gaining weight). I'm hoping someone can help me answer a few questions. > > We have both been constipated the last few days. Guest guest
Hi , I have had IBS for at least 30 years and maybe longer; disabling for this period, anyhow. I've been on SCD since last July. From my experience and what I've read here, I think we with IBS can have a somewhat easier time with the diet. Not necessarily at first, but seems like the progression can be quicker. Yes, it's boring at first. This hasn't bothered me because boring doesn't begin to describe my diet the last 28 years! As one example of my SCD diet, I have had absolutely no trouble with fresh fruits or veggies, the ones I can eat at a given time, that is, and I suspect one reason is that bleeding is not one of my problems. I'm not saying everyone with IBS will find this to be true but it has been for me. On the other hand, I still don't dare try dairy. But recently I started cautiously trying eggs. DH looked incredulous and asked how long it had been since I had an egg and I thought about it and said, " at least 26 years! " And oh, do they taste good! Anyhow, back to your actual question. You will still need to do the Intro for a couple of days, but I suspect you may find you can add foods quicker than some. Of course, use common sense: if you have a problem, cut it back out and try again later. It can be an on-going puzzle to figure out when you can add things successfully. > Is the diet protocol is any different for people with IBS vs. something more serious like Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis? Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, . It's nice to know it may go easier for me once I get going. Have you noticed any other improvements from the diet besides being able to eat more foods? I originally looked into this diet for my ASD son, but the more I read about it, I thought it might be good for me, too. And based on my die off symptoms, it seems like I am on the right track! Back to the constipation issue, do you know if magnesium sulfate is legal? > > Hi , > I have had IBS for at least 30 years and maybe longer; disabling for > this period, anyhow.
