I need another place to vent my anger. So either delete this e mail or read

( your call).

I have been the retail manager of a ladie's clothing outlet store in a major

outlet mall on Long Island for over 3 years. On monday with no advance

warning, the out of town operations manager came in and I at his request was

there on my day off.

Instead of making a delivery or conducting my annual review as I expected, he

came with a truck and workmen and informed me and my fellow employees that

the store was being closed right then and there!!!

I am so angry- words cannot express how outraged I am.

I am the only one who gets their poor excuse for severance pay ( 2 weeks

salary) and they plann to only continue our health insurance coverage through

the end of this month!!!

I had a meeting with this man the next day after I was no longer in a total

shock mode and clearly and strongly told him what I thought of this

outrageous way that the decision to close the store was handled. Perhaps,

when he takes my points back to the company owner, they will come back with a

little more.

I am torn between taking another job right away or going on unemployment for

a little while as I look for a " perfect " job.

Dear Lillian, this happened to me also two years ago. My advise is to take the unemployment and you will also be eligible for Cobra. That's an insurance and you can keep that I believe for 18 months. Now they do need to send you all this information within a time period. sorry I don't know what that is but its very important because the company can be in major trouble if they don't offer it. I was also in total shock...I loved that job. It was The Money Store which was a mortgage company. Just realize too that its not your fault and this is something you have no control over...take the unemployment, catch your breath, get over the shock and you will regroup....Love, Sue Marth

Oh Lillian, I would feel the same way!! What a terrible thing to have done

to you. I'm glad the you could vent some of your anger to us... Please know

that we are all here for you and there are alot of shoulders available.

I know it's hard to accept, but as they say all things happen for a reason...

rotten way they did it. We all know there are no

guarantees in life, but a little courtesy and loyalty

I would call the owner and talk with him, the other folks that work under him aren't going to tell him what you said they couldn't care less. I think you should address him and tell him this is what you get for dedication to your job? That was unfair, hey I would be pissed off too! You just hang in there, hey go draw your pennies while you look for another job. Enjoy this time as a time to relax a little. After all you can draw for a little while anyway.

Hi Lillian,

I am so sorry that you have been through such a rotten couple of days!! The

only real thing I wanted to say to you is that they MUST offer you COBRA

insurance. There are LAWS about this and they are very strict. It is very

expensive but better than nothing until you can get something else. I am

assuming you have RP-- COBRA is especially important if you do because most

insurance policies have a 1 year clause for " pre-existing conditions " . You

will need something to hold you over to get you through that 1 year period.

The company must send you the paperwork-- which is the " option " to continue

under COBRA within 30 days (I think it is 30 days). You could search on

your computer for all of the specifics about it. If you are not offered

COBRA within the established period of time the law says, then you need to

see an attorney. I am not a " sue happy " person and am certainly not

suggesting that but you have a right to this and it could become crucial due

to the RP. I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now, but

please, remember that there is nothing that you can do about it (except

vent) and that you MUST remember to take care of yourself-- especially

medically. I don't know about you, but all it takes is a little bit of

increased stress to send my RP into orbit and what you are going through is

a little more than " a little bit of stress " . Take Care of yourself!
