Guest guest
For a couple weeks now, I’ve been having a real problem. I am approaching menopause (will have it full blown within a year or so) and have developed night sweats. It keeps me awake for hours. I get sweaty and hot and then cool down and start it all over again several times a night. It rarely happens during the day. It happens anywhere between 11:00 pm and 3:00am. Is anyone going through this and what do you do to alleviate the effects? What can I take that is SCD legal? I already take a lot of GLA (black currant and evening primrose oil). I’m out of ideas. Apparently black cohosh is good but I don’t know if it’s SCD legal as it isn’t on the list.Marilyn said that evening primrose oil helped her transition to menopause go very smoothly.Mara

Guest guest
Yes I have had night sweats off and on. It was mostly related to blood sugar issues. I would end up very low blood sugar around 2 am and waking up sweating. I'd fall back asleep eventually. In the morning I'd be a bit weak but otherwise didn't notice anything. Never sweat during the day. When did you notice the night sweats starting? Did any medications or supplements change? I can't find your original thread.. I started eating a lot more animal based fats (butter, fatty cuts of meat) especially for breakfast and dinner. Having 1 egg before bedtime worked really well. Once I started eating more organ meats and oysters, the night sweats disappeared. So I think for me it was a combination of low blood sugar and not having enough of certain nutrients. B vitamins are essential for regulating blood sugar, and eggs, organs & oysters are great sources. Haven't had any night sweats for months now. Hope that helps, Kat http://scdkatfood.blogspot.com > > > > > For a couple weeks now, I've been having a real problem. Guest guest
Thank you Kat, I’ve started night sweats only about 2 weeks ago. I haven’t changed anything in my diet. I thought it might be my coffee, but I’ve experimented with just 1 cup or 2 cups or weak or a little stronger…no change. My period has been behaving erratically for the past month. Before, they would be off and on and short. This month, it’s been off and on for 3 or 4 consecutive weeks, a few days interval. I can’t eat meat as it constipates me. If I have protein in the evening it keeps me awake, except a little nut butter. I haven’t tried eggs though but I already have 2 every day. I’m afraid more than 2 would be too much. I am not on any meds. I’ve only upped my dosage of calcium/magnesium/vitamin D/K to 1000mg, 500mg, 1000iu and 90 mcg respectively. GERDS and chronic C. Guest guest
,Have you ever considered yoga? I have been stressing myself out about my health lately and it has made my face feel like it is pulsating -- when I meditate and stretch it goes away. I think sometimes we have a tendency to do these things to ourselves and over-analyze every little thing.True, it is good to watch what eat carefully -- in fact, it's very important for us, but I think over-analyzing everything can cause a lot of stress. I also tend to want to add a new supplement for every little issue that comes up even if it isn't SCD-related. Try and relax -- yoga might help your night sweat issues. __________________________________________________________________ CD SCD 5 months Lialda, Purinethol Freeda Vitamins, L. Guest guest
So far (it's day 12 or so) I haven't had nightsweats or nightmares on LDN. I thought it was coincidental at first. Also, extreme strict SCD seemed to help. At first, I did wake up just 'burning up but not seating. That lasted the first couple of nights then stopped. Just an idea. Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, Up to now, I’ve been taking 4 x 1000mg EPO (which would make about 400mg of GLA) plus 1 x 1000mg black currant oil (170mg GLA) per day. I’m thinking of upping the black currant oil to 3/day. This should make a difference. I”ll also alternate between black currant oil and borage oil. Sound like a plan? GERDS and chronic C. I confess that I've never used (long term) either borage or black current oil, just the EPO (which is what most of the studies were done on.) I reacted to both of them, but not the EPO. Keeping in mind that I'm over 200 pounds, I was using 12-15 grams (1000 mg) EPO, split in 4-5 doses around the clock. I had no trouble with hot flashes going through menopause -- my cycles had been gone for about two years when I was diagnosed with the cancer, and had my hysterectomy. They also removed the ovaries and Fallopian tubes at the same time. Apparently, my ovaries had remained somewhat active, because I started having hot flashes right after the surgery, even WITH my evening primrose. And then I discovered that the Motrin I was prescribed for pain, in addition to being formulated with lactose, cancelled out the effectiveness of the EPO! I would recommend keeping a diary of what you are taking on any given day, and note your symptoms. Then you can see how effective your proposed program is for you. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
