Guest guest
Glenda, The only eye involvement I have had is conjunctivitis. My eyes get red and they hurt. With the crusting it sounds like an eye infection. Is "pink eye" going around at Shae's school? My kids got it when they were in grade school. Hugs, Sandy I had to go into the Dr. again today. This morning I woke up with my right eye all crusted shut. Last night it was kind of scratchy like it had something in it. Then all day today it was the same. I called the PCP and went in. He says he couldn't see anything in it and thinks it is probably and infection. I hope he is right. Well Take care all! Know I think of you lots! Guest guest
Hi Glenda, I am new to the group but I have experienced quite a few eye flares over the past year. Lillian described them in her email exactly the same way I experience them. My opthamalogist diagnosed it as nodular episcleritis and it was one of the first symptoms of RP (along with ear flares and joint pains) that I had. It does sound like yours could be an infection. I had pink eye many years ago and symptoms were the same as what you described. If it continues, there are eye drops that can help. Ask your pharmacist. Hope you are feeling better today. -----Original Message-----From: Glenda Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2001 7:17 PMTo: rpolychondritis Subject: Evening- I have Questions Evening All, It is me again. Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was out of town and then we had computer problems (etc etc., excuses, excuses). Anyway, to answer your question, I was diagnosed with RP one year ago. I was very fortunate to be referred to a wonderful rheumatologist who is familiar with RP and diagnosed me immediately. I have eye flares (nodular episcleritis), ear flares and occasional joint point. I am on 10 mg of Methotrexate (weekly), folic acid (daily) and take colchicine twice a day at the first sign of a flare up. The Metho and Colchicine seem to have shortened the duration and frequency of the flares. Before I started taking the drugs the flares would last 7 to 10 days and now it's usually 2 to 4 days. I also have renal involvement. My kidneys are functioning normally except for microscopic blood in the urine. I see a kidney specialist every few months to monitor the condition. He has me on blood pressure medicine (20 mg Lotensin) to help protect my kidneys. I saw him last Thursday and told him I'd found a RP group on the internet. He said he'd be interested to know how many of you have kidney involvement -- so if you do, let me know. I am 39 years old, married with two children and live in San Diego, California. I have read most of the posts since I joined the group and I'm glad to have found such a friendly place to share and learn more about RP. -----Original Message-----From: Sandy Catalusci Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 11:53 AMTo: Rpolychondritis Subject: Re: Evening- I have Questions Hi , Welcome! Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Just curious about your renal involvement-- I have had blood in my urine-- at all times-- for several years. I also have a history of frequent Kidney infections, Kidney Stones 2 times and glomerulonephritis (sp?). No one has ever discussed Kidney involvement with me.
