Guest guest
As the others have explained the American holiday began in Plymouth with the Pilgrims who had come from Plymouth, England, the year before. But it probably came from the English custom of celebrating the harvest. I remember one October when I went to a Harvest Sunday in Lincoln Cathedral with an English friend. It was wonderful! The cathedral was packed, there were crops and some farm machinery up front and the singing was magnificent. G
