Guest guest
Hi all! I went for a checkup with the rheumy today and he said that if I can't taper the pred, he will put me on MTX. I really didn't like the sound of all the side effects... How many of you are on it now and what does it do to you? I kind of made a deal to start after the New Year if I can't taper as I really didn't want to feel terrible for Christmas! Thanks, Kathleen

Guest guest
kathleen i have done really well on mtx. at first i was really tired, but after about 6 to 8 weeks i adjusted and have had no side effects whatsoever, take it and keep on moving, drink lots of water the day you take it and the next day. Thats what worked for me. dawn Kathleen wrote: Hi all! I went for a checkup with the rheumy today and he said that if I can't taper the pred, he will put me on MTX. Guest guest
Dear Kathleen, I started taking mtx in July after bouncing around on pred. for several years. Mostly I was having to take a lot of pred. and it wasn't really very effective for my RP symptoms. To begin with I didn't notice any improvement on the MTX, but the longer I have been on it the better things have gotten. Haven't had any major problems with the medication. Just a little tired on the day after I take it. It has helped me to lower the dose of pred. significantly. Take care. Love, Marilyn Hi all! > > I went for a checkup with the rheumy today and he said that if I can't taper the pred, he will put me on MTX. I really didn't like the sound of all the side effects... Guest guest
Kathleen... I was on Metho for a year.. I didn't have too many side effects, I just wasn't able to lower my pred on it... I had to start really slow on it..3 tablets a week.. I would stay on that dose for 2 weeks then raise by one every two weeks til I got to 8 tabs a week. At first I got terrible headaches the night I took it.. Those soon went away.. I was a little nauseated at first til my body adjusted. It also made me achey all over. I felt like I had the flu.. Because I don't work, I'd take mine on Sunday nite with food. Then I wouldn't feel lousy for the weekend. LOL Everyone is different though. It has worked for plenty of others... It IS important that we lower our pred as low as possible. My goal as I'm sure most of ours is, is to finally get off of it... Anything that helps control the flares and not being on high doses of pred. Good luck and I think you are wise to wait til Jan. I did too.. LOL I started mine Jan 7th... Let us know how it works for you. hugs
