Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I'm on Remicade right now. I go to a medical center to get an IV infusion of Remicade once every 8 weeks. When I first started the remicade treatment, I received the infusion in different frequencies - 0,2,4,8 and now, every 8 weeks continually. However, I was informed it will only work in conjunction with Methotrexate which I take 7.5 mg orally. The inconvenience for me of getting the infusion is setting aside 3 hours which is how long it takes. Like yourself, Plaquenil had no effect on me and the high doses of MTX still did not allow me to taper off steroids. With the introduction of Remicade, I immediately began to taper off the dreaded steroids after being on it for a year. Now, finally I'm off of it completely. I'm actually in the process of enrolling for Enbrel because I do not want to be on both the MTX and the Remicade. Well, if you have any further questions, just ask away. Sunny >I saw my rheumy today-a 45 minute appointment. I am >to go back up to 5 mg of pred and continue on enbrel >while they start the paperwork to get me switched over >to Remicade. He said that is my best chance (right >now) to ever get below 5 mg of pred. My head is >swimming right now with all we discussed, so I am >going to start checking out Remicade on line. I do appreciate it. I am not on MTX currently due to the toxic side effects that I experienced. However my doctor is always willing to try new and different things. After two years on Prednisone, and now dealing with the high blood pressure it has caused, he wants me off steroids really badly. He feels that the advantage of Remicade over Enbrel is that the dosage is much more adjustable and that is what I need. Enbrel has allowed me to lower my prednisone to about half of what I was taking, but I cannot get lower on it. So, I am willing to try this and see how it goes. My doc has another RP patient who is doing great on Remicade. Thanks again for your information, and I wish you the best success on Enbrel. Thanks, Sharon ===== __________________________________________________
