Guest guest
Ok it's crazy Martha again with another off-the-topic soap box. I've finally caught up with my mail and am soooo concerned about Dan's cancer surgery, radiation & chemotherapy. As a cancer survivor myself, I know how hard this can be. So - Do yourself a favor - and your family - and get your colon checked! There is GOOD NEWS with this test; it can actually PREVENT colon cancer, Not just catch it early! Since most colon cancer starts with a polyp, if the doctor catches it a the polyp stage, they just snip it gone!!!! No other treatment is necessary if they catch it at the polyp or pre-cancerous (insitu) stage. So -- again-- if you are over age 50, or have a first-degree family member (mother, father, brother, sister) with colon cancer + are younger -- GO TO YOUR DOCTOR AND INSIST ON A COLONOSCOPY! The American Cancer Society recommends this as a screening test for EVERYBODY 50+, not just high risk people. Your insurance SHOULD cover the cost. The procedure itself is painless, and very low risk. The bad part is the day before preparation - fasting & major laxatives - but surely you RPers are tough enough to handle a few hours of diarrhea. Trust me it's nothing compared to an ear flare. So do this for yourself -- and your family, as a Christmas or New Year's present. Men and women both! Martha PS and remeber, just because you have RP doesn't mean you should ignore the rest of your health! Make you appointment today, or just call & bug your primary doctor's nurse to make an appointment with a gastroenterologist! __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Martha, I agree with you. My hubby had so many polyps by time he learned he had them, that he had to have surgery. Removed 2 1/2 feet of his colon. We were blessed, he is doing ok with this. Just had to have a few " burned " out since and this year he doesn't have to go for the next checkup for 3 years. So, there is help if get it in time. I, too, am concerned about Dan. Let's all keep the cards going to him and let him know we miss he and Joan. Have a great Christmas. Jo P.S. Oh yes, and now he doesn't have to take the messy stuff before the colonoscopy each time. Just 1 pill and enema. Give you family a Christmas gift - a Colonoscopy! >Ok it's crazy Martha again with another off-the-topic >soap box.
