Guest guest
A message from my daughter Alice. The documents are in Word with tables in Excel. Hopefully you can all read them ; if not perhaps someone in the group will be able to make them accessible to all. alice is also planning to send a copy to the relevant doctors. " yes I've finally got the dissertation in a format to send to you all. Page numbers may be a wee bit out in the appendix, but the contents should be okay. The dissertation is in 2 documents. The first is the main part and the second is purely the appendix containing references and acknowledgements. I apologise if it seems a bit lengthy and full of Pharmacology terminology, but it had to be for my degree. If you have any problems with it, don't hesitate to contact my father or myself (my email is alice@...). Sorry for the delay, I hope it was worth the wait! " - Alice Dawson (See attached file: appendixsending.doc)(See attached file: sendingdis.doc) On a personal note life is a bit tough. I had surgery for prostate cancer nearly 2 years ago. since then I have felt fine and have been monitored every 6 months on my PSA ( prostate specific antigen ) score. They have all been at a trivial level except the last one had gone up from 0.2 to 0.6 and my surgeon and oncologist say the only explanation is minor but active cancer. this throws all the options open. My best hope is that the cancer cells are grouped around where the prostate used to be , then they can be zapped by radiotherapy. However if they are now dispersed , on current medical knowledge there is no cure , merely delaying processes usually involving hormone therapy. I feel perfectly well and fit but no one is able to reassure me all will be well in the future . I also feel something of a 'fraud' saying this to a group all of whom have the real daily pain and uncertainty of rp. Medical science for prostate cancer is moving pretty quickly and in the 'worst case scenario ' I just have to hope new treatments have become a reality. i know this is a rp group but any input or thoughts on prostate cancer would be greatly appreciated. back to rp - ann has also had a tough time in the last week or two. After several months of calm she had a nasty flare ( severe pain in the chest and nausea for a day ) eventually after more pred and painkillers it abated. Ann had got down to less than 10 mg but has had to go back up to 15. This is on top of the methotrexate. We just hope it was because she dropped the pred too speedily and that a more gradual reduction will still work . Finally our other daughter Clare age 25 has taken time out from full time work and is spending a year in new Zealand and Australia. She rang tonight and tomorrow she tackles the Abel Tasman Coastal trail in the south Island of NZ. It's a small world Dawson , Chester England IMPORTANT NOTICE: This email is confidential, may be legally privileged, and is for the intended recipient only. Guest guest
Hi , Please give my best to your family and please thank Alice for all of her hard work on behalf of everyone with RP. If you have time, would you please be so kind as to send me Alice's dissertation? I, too do not receive the attachments and I would very much like to read her paper. As far as the prostate is concerned.....here are some sites that might be of help. Like many things....they would like it if you ordered their product....I am sending these things only for you to look at and decide if any of it might be helpful. There is a site on PC Spes (and I am sure there are others on it, as well). I have heard positive results from those who use PC Spes. Here's a link: http://www.herbs4healing.com/Cancer/PCspes/pcspes.html Also, the following article might be helpful....but again, they are trying to sell you a product... http://www.agora-inc.com/reports/V02/1059EA/ Lastly, you might find some help at the http://bioimmune.com/ site. I think they have a reliable combination of traditional meds and non traditional ones too. Lastly, I would recommend The Natural Pharmacist. They have lots of information on various supplements and even have a list of drug interactions. See http://www.tnp.com Take care and the best to you, Connie H > > A message from my daughter Alice. Guest guest
, thank you for sending Alice's dissertation. I haven't been able to read it yet, but plan on gettting caught up soon. LOL Sounds like Clare is having a wonderful time. You must be so proud of your girls. Do you have any more children or just the two daughters? About the prostrate cancer, my sister's father was dx with it over 10 years ago and then he was in the same situation as you are. The used homone treatment with him and he is doing wonderful. It has been 8 years and still going strong. He did have some side effects from the hormones, the worst being the sweating ( hot flashes). Other than that, he leads a REALLY active life. so sorry that Ann had another flare... I know how she feels. I'm in the middle of one too. Haven't had a bad one for a long time. Raised my pred back up and seem to be doing okay again. Tell her Hi for me. Please know that you and the rest of the family are in my thoughts and prayers. Post more often, it's always so good to hear from you. hugs
