Guest guest
Prompt takes a while to get used to for the child. My son did not like it at first but now he is fine. [ ] anyone prefer PROMPT or Kaufman method for hteir kids? Hi, My daughter has been seeing a level 3 PROMPT speech therapist for about 2 months now, and I have mixed feelings. The therapist wants me to use the manual touch techniuqe on my daughter at home, which I am fine with, but apparently there is a certain way to postion your hands and fingers and the wrong position can send the wrong message for sounds to make and I am not comfortable doing this at home, even though she had me practice on her. a few mins of practice doesn't mean I know what I am doing at home the next day. My husband feels that he hasn't seen any progress with our daughter, so for those of you who chose PROMPT as the speech technique, I am wondering how long did it take before your child showed real progress (i.e. making sounds or words on his/her own etc). ANy of you switched to Kaufman? Anyone with an opinion on why you liked one or the other, how your child responded etc etc. I just don't want to switch my daughter because of my own issues but I am concerned about the expectation of me using the manual manipulation at home daily and that I will do it wrong and harm my child. THank you in advance for your time and thoughts. By the way, she is on fish oil and I am about to start vitamin E but I believe she is not one of those who are major responders to fish oil, but I will start the vitamin e as well and see if that makes a difference. Guest guest
My son received therapy for 2.5 years at the Prompt Inst. Initially Deborah Hayden worked with him, but after a few months he only saw her occasionally with her travel schedule and then he was handed fully over to another therapist there since Deborah only does limited direct therapy. We only recently stopped because we moved out of state. He started making attempts after a few sessions, but I didn't see any major leaps, just slow steady progress after two years of no progress. He responded very well to the method, but he was also older (4) and didn't mind his face being touched. I'm surprised that the therapist is encouraging Prompting at home! I was told absolutely not to, but given other techniques to use. I did end up Prompting certain sounds, but I was specifically shown in time what to do. I only Prompted one syllable and it was the " easy " prompts, k, d, nothing involving the mouth. My son was also a non-responder to fish oil (or minimal, he started the oils at the same time as Prompt and made more verbal attempts, but that improvement levelled off quickly and increased dosageso be no change in her either. :hasn't helped. I still have him on it, but am considering stopping and seeing if he's the same without. I've started my baby on fish oil as well, but there seems t( My son, however, responded very well to Vitamin E. He now gets 800 IU of alpha and 400 IU of gamma daily and this improvement is still coming. His articulation is very clear now and he only sound apraxic with sentences. On one word artic tests he tested around 3.6in May and 6.6 (or somewhere around there) in December!!! At the time he was only 6.3months, but thanks to lots of drilling and repetition he has almost perfected the /th/ sound which jumps him a little higher. I started the Vit E in September. That is HUGE and it keeps getting better. Now I wish I could find something to address his language issues as well. Guest guest
Depends on the sensory stuff. A few weeks, I guess. If I know you, you will get into it. It moves language along so quickly. We really dont need it anymore...can you believe that?
