Guest guest
Kathi, Thanks so much for your input. I have been fighting with this for over a year now. I take triamterene/HTZ 37.5/25CP already and have been on it for about a year. It worked okay for a while but BP was never down where it needed to be. Now the beta blocker that they put me on is atenolol 50mg. I only take one a day of each of the meds. Dr. said to take it at night or cut the pill in half and take half in am and then the other half in evening if it bothered me. I am going to go to the drug site and check this med out. It sounds scary. I was the only one in the office and I told her I couldn't be around her so she left pretty much after that. I will have to wait a couple weeks to find out if I get the shingles now. I will think positive like I did when the family had chicken pox. I was so lucky then so I will be this time now. Thanks for all the input! Guest guest
Glenda, Those 2 drugs, in combination, are pretty common and are generally pretty effective. My neighbor was put on both of them and I checked her B/P daily for her to make sure she was doing okay. She began having some lightheadedness and feeling very tired. What we found was that her B/P was actually dropping to low, FOR HER, in the middle of the day, so she began taking the atenolol in half doses, day and night, and she has done much better. She is somewhat of a big woman--not fat-- just big frame and her body just couldn't handle what " textbook " normal B/P is. Sometimes, to bring the B/P down, to quick, to far, is just as dangerous as having it to elevated. Be careful with it. Guest guest
Kathi G., I think I am having the same problem. I just got up from a 4 hr. nap and I feel like I could go to bed again. I am going to take a half dose tonight and see if that works. Lots of Love Glenda Glenda,Those 2 drugs, in combination, are pretty common and are generally pretty effective. Guest guest
Glenda, Let me know how you are doing! Do you have a way to check your B/P?? Best case scenerio is if someone can take it manually-- I am not a big fan of the machines you can buy at the store. They are better than nothing but some of them have a tendency to be a little inaccurate. They are good if it is a machine you have been using for a long time so you know what YOUR B/P's are running on that machine but if you haven't been using it for a long time it may be a little misleading!! I hope you know what I am trying to say because it didn't come out the way I wanted it to!! My mind is slipping a bit these days! Guest guest
Kathi G. I understood every word! LOL Is that bad or what? My sister has a machine and I will be going to her house this evening to see her and do some stuff if I can get the energy to go. Hers is the old fashion kind. Thanks for the input. Guest guest
Glenda, It sounds like your B/P is headed in the right direction!! You are right though, you probably don't want it to drop much lower! Your body learns to compensate for whatever your " normal " B/P is-- if it drops to low, to quick(and that is the real problem) it sends your body into something similar to shock and can cause just as many problems as if it were to high!! If your fatigue has increased due to the new medication and change in B/P that should begin to ease over the next several days. Have a good night!
