Just from personal experience, my body feels different when I eat sea salt as

opposed to table salt. Not sure about the other ingredients, but less is best in

my book, unless you really need the iodine. The table salt I have (Mortons)

doesn't have all that stuff, but they could just not be listing it.

I know the BTVC site says it's okay if it has dextrose, but does anyone know if

the calcium silicate is legal? I have a real problem with being able to cut

down on salt, I use an extreme amount on my food and was wondering if this could

be contributing to a really bad flare up I've been having for about a week. I

know it could be any number of things, but just wanted to know if anyone has any

information on this.

When you say different, is it a better or worse different? I have two cartons

of salt, one is Mortons and one is Hain and both list the same ingredients

(they're both iodized salt). Regardless, I guess I'll try just using the sea

salt I have for a while and see how that goes. Thanks so much for your input.

Pegi,

Since you're giving up processed food, you're also giving up a stunning

amount of sodium, and it will take your system awhile to adjust to this.

It's probably why you're craving salt.

I would not give up your salt with iodine unless you are replacing the

iodine some how -- maybe eating iodine rich seafood. Elaine considered

the iodine critical enough to excuse the dextrose, which is used to keep

the iodine from sublimating out of the salt. You need iodine to keep your

thyroid functioning properly. Calcium silicate should be legal.

I just did some research/calculations and found out you'd need to eat a little over 2 teaspoons of redmond's real salt a day to get the RDA recommended DV of iodine. That doesn't seem sufficient...bummer! Thanks everyone for your input. I think I'm just having a bit of a freak out

due to doing so well then having this set back. I'm analyzing everything I put

everyone here can relate to how I'm feeling right now, so just ignore the

How did the human race ever survive without iodized

They ate fish and other foods with iodine. Fish used to be required on

Friday, you know, and during the entirety of Lent.

Iodised salt (also spelled iodized salt) is table salt mixed with a

minute amount of various iodine-containing salts. The ingestion of iodide

prevents iodine deficiency. Worldwide, iodine deficiency affects about

two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of mental

retardation.[1] It also causes thyroid gland problems, including endemic

goitre. In many countries, iodine deficiency is a major public health

problem that can be cheaply addressed by iodisation of salt.

Iodine is a micronutrient that is naturally present in the food supply in

many regions. However, where natural levels of iodine in the soil are low

and the iodine is not taken up by vegetables, iodine added to salt

provides the small but essential amount needed by humans.

Oh, and the other thing is that when they had properly rotated crops

and things, iodine was restored to the soil. But our wonderful

monoculture farming doesn't do that.

Hah, sorry about that. It sure makes a difference. I feel better when I eat sea

salt. Table salt always had a weird aftertaste to me, kind of chemically, even

before the diet, but I started using it for a while to get iodine. Now I just

hope I'm getting enough iodine in the fish I eat pretty much every day.

Seems to be a trend.... make things worse for everyone because we need it yesterday and lots of it... and then fix the problem by adding it bac in with a pill or some other substance. Makes no sense to me.I thought that it was illegal because of the dextrose even though it's only .04%. TO confirm, you would reccomend using salt with iodine in it? Or just eat fish, eggs, ect....-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: LouisianaSCDLagniappe@...Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2010 23:16:03 -0500Subject: RE: Question about salt

How did the human race ever survive without iodized

salt?

Seems to be a trend.... make things worse for everyone because we need it yesterday and lots of it... and then fix the problem by adding it bac in with a pill or some other substance. I haven't used iodized salt for years. I use Redmond mostly. I'm

still here, too, and I don't have a goiter.
