Guest guest
Hi all, I have been making goats yoghurt (more like cheese actually) and having about 2 3rds of a cup a day in my morning smoothie - more than that and I'm in trouble. Originally I was diagnosed with IBS/IBD/Leaky Gut (they really don't know what the cause is), and with that I did a Metametrix stool test which showed I had an overgrowth of both good an bad bacteria. I stopped seeing the naturopath as she was wedded to SCD illegals and I was getting sicker on the supplements she had me on. My question is, if anyone knows, whether I should be taking a pro-biotic as well as the goats yoghurt? I have only just got my bms back on track and had to use Digestive enzymes to get a balance as I lurched from C to D constantly, though that could also be because of the huge gallbladder stone which now has to be removed. I just don't want to go back to the " too much of all bacteria " situation I had before. Thanks IBS/IBD/Leaky Gut - 40 yrs SCD 2 months

Guest guest
, It sounds like you have hte same kind of IBS I do: mixed. That is, C sometimes, D sometimes and once in a very great while, in between. I'm much more stable now after some months on the diet, but in the bad old days I could lurch back and forth several times in one day even. That seems odd that they'd tell you you have an overgrowth of good bacteria! I THINK you should still do some probiotics, though, because seems like you need as many good as possible to help crowd out the bad and repopulate correctly as the died does the baddies in. Guest guest
Yes, you can get an overgrowth of “good” or beneficial bacteria just as you can with the “bad”. I came across discussions of this in the medical literature occasionally during the past six years I’ve been researching nutrition and microbiology… In some instances antibiotics were required to get L. Acidophilus under control again. Remember that our immune systems are part of keeping our gut ecology balanced, and when our immune systems are overwhelmed dealing with other issues, then some microorganisms take advantage and flourish. It just means you are careful with how you supplement probiotics. Less is better in most cases. You want the gut ecology to stabilize, get back into balance, improve your immune system. Kim M. Guest guest
What tests do you all use to find out what is going on in your guts? I read about the Organic Acid Test, but that is all so far. I don't know what probiotics are helping or hurting at this point, so I think it's time to find out. Sorry if this is posted somewhere else and a repeat. Guest guest
Hey ,sorry to hear about the huge gallbladder stone. I was just posting on another thread about gallbladder cleanses described in the book Healing With Whole Foods by Pitchford. I hate to think of you trying to recover from surgery, thought I would recommend you give them a read and maybe a try first, they are designed for stones. Best, Hi all, I have been making goats yoghurt (more like cheese actually) and having about 2 3rds of a cup a day in my morning smoothie - more than that and I'm in trouble.
