Why don't you try small amounts and see how it goes?  Start with ripe bananas, cooked, peeled fruits.  You don't want to overwhelm all at once.  Just start working it into your diet slowly.

I still can't eat a lot of salads/raw fruits because it may not bother me at first but it will if I overdo it over a week or two.  Seeds don't bother me in small amounts.

Everything in moderation.  If it hurts, don't do it though.  That means something is wrong imho.

Base don the discusion for some weeks ago on fruit, yeast and SCD I have been thinking a lot. Becuase I really want to eat fruit, but my stomach don’t like it. It give me pain and diarrhea/constipation.

But I have been thinking. Maybe it is just the stomach that is not used to the fruit? What wuld happen if I just ”give f..” in the pain and stangre bm for a week or so and just try to eat fruit every day. Maybe the stomach will in the end tolerate it?

Since I haven’t been eating fruit for 2 years now, maybe my stomach don’t know how to ”handle” (digest) it?

Because I don’t have any reason for not to tolerate fruit. I have yeast, but not so bad yeast/bacterias based on the OAT test. And I could eat lots of berries before. But have not tried that because of the seeds yet.

Have you tried eating it once, then waiting a few days, then having

some more, then waiting a few days - and continuing like that.

Sometimes eating something every day creates a problem, whereas

spacing it out by several days is okay for the digestion.

It takes a lot of discipline, which can be very hard, but this can help.

Have you tried berries - blueberries cooked down into a sauce?

How about lemon-aide, or diluting the orange juice 200, 300, or 400%,

until you find a point where you can tolerate it. And just having some

every few days.

This way at least you will find out whether you can't yet do fruits, or

you can do a very little bit of fruits, spaced out.

Also, it may be that you need more healing before you can do

fruits again.

How long have you been on SCD?

I can't drink orange juice or lemonade or eat grapefruit.  I spritz lemon juice on most fish and meat though.  I like cooked pineapple and can cook with the juice.  I also tolerate gelatin with cranberry juice but I don't drink the juice.

Grape juice works for me but it's pretty sweet so I dilute it either with water by 50% or usually with perrier (carbonated water) for a soda.

As for the apple, pear, banana--rarely.  Do you keep a food diary?  That's really helpful so you can look back and retry something.  All fruits are legal pretty much.  Great time of year to experiment.

Karianne,

Perhaps you have a sensitivity or intolerance to fructose? Have you noticed a

difference between fruit that are higher in fructose versus those that are

relatively low in it? Or maybe you have an intolerance to certain fruits? I

know for myself, I've always had difficulty with apples and while most people

here are probably able to tolerate the apple sauce quite well, I know for myself

that I will be staying away from it.

Hey, I don't really know much about this, but I would not 'brute force' it. I don't think your stomach forgets how to digest fruit.. also, supposing it had, I fancy you might get an ache, or feel queasy. not develop pain and d/c, classic IBD symptoms. easy does it, and I would also work with your body, not against.

best,

I can't tolerate fruit either and before UC I ate probably 3 fruits per day, all

kinds.

I'm really not craving fruit anymore even though my husband has it in the house

because it's not worth the D and colon meltdown.

Have you tried blueberries? I can eat a few of them a day. They are tart, maybe

that's the difference. Raspberries are OK too but I don't like them much. Funny

though, I tried frozen blueberries and they don't agree with me, just fresh.

None of the citrus (orange, lemon, etc) are good for me.

I've had UC for 10 ears but just had success on SCDiet in the last 3 months. Not

cured yet but no bleeding and lot less urgency.

I have no idea about yeast and me. Is this a doctor test?

I don't have the patience to do that.. (at least I think so..). I guess I can

try but it like I just have given up the fruit because I rather want to

introduce a new veggies then fruit.

I have been nearly SCD for 1,5 years and 100% SCD for 7 months.

To raven_in_the_mist:

I haven't notice any difference between fruits. I just that before I restarted

SCD I could eat lots of berries (frozen/fresh/cooked) but not any fruit.
