It is a challenge and you will cope. You are a source of help and support to your mum ; all you can do is continue to provide that support as best you can. Yes it will be a strain on you ; you need to recognise this and work out who can best help you. your mum sounds very ill. Her doctor is the key person ; if he seems uncertain on the right way forward persuade him to talk to the rheumotologists Russ has suggested. Most people's rp is held in check by immunosuppressants and steroids with the steroids being the big variable. If those don't work steroid pulse therapy or stem cell transplantion have been used as fall backs.
