Just to help clarify.....Kapa'a is on the island of Kauai, which is about a 45 minute plane ride from Maui. I live on the island of Oahu, which is about a 35 minute plane ride to Maui. Connie, you're gonna have a great time on Maui. It's a beautiful island with lots of things to do....sightseeing and shopping! The unfortunte thing about Maui is that it is over built in some areas and the developers didn't plan very wisely. Traffic hour is horrendous as there is only one road around the island. If you plan to rent a car and drive, try NOT to drive during the morning and late afternoon traffic hours. My husband and I were able to visit Maui last summer and enjoyed their brand new oceanarium. Every time we visit a new city, my husband, who loves fishes, has to visit their local aquarium. The one on Maui has this really neat tube that you can walk through for a 320-degree view of the sea life.....there's also a candle factory in a mall next to the oceanrium that had some unusual candles. It's also pleasant to walk along the Lahaina waterfront where they have a variety of restaurants, art galleries and unusual shops to browse it. They also have a live theatre show (about 1-1/2 hours longs) along the water front called 'Maui, Myth, and Magic " which we found to be quite entertaining if you like the kind of performances similar to LeCirque. It's a show about the Hawaiian legends of Maui's origins. There's also Haleakala, a dormant volcano which is a must-see at sunrise, or, even sunset. The lodge also has an wonderful restaurant. as well. The weather has been a bit cloudy this past week, but, they forcast sunny weather next week...Maui was mostly sunny with a few trade showers. Temperatures ranged from 71 to 84 degrees...you and your husband will have a wonderful week to play on this tropical island. Maui is one of my favorite islands to visit. I've only had the opportunity to visit this island only 4 times, but, every time I go, I always find something new to explore...If the prices are reasonable, I'm hoping that we can go for our 10th anniversary next month.... I will continue to check next week's paper for the weather forecast if I read of any surprise changes.....have a wonderful vacation!!!! Aloha, karen p.s. don't for get your suncreen and mosquito repellent. I also read somewhere that light colored clothing attracts less mosquitos.
