Guest guest
, you should get a bone density test done. Actually all women over 40? 30? with a history of long term prednisone use should get a bone density " DEXA " test done. Get the one where they look at your spine & hips, not just the arm and leg bones. It's totally painless, you just lay on a table for 15 minutes while they run a machine over you. If you are showing any sign of early osteoporosis, there are medications to help prevent severe osteoporosis. One I can think of is Raloxifene, it's called a SERM (selective estrogen receptor modifier???) Anyway they are testing it vs. tamoxifen to see if it can also prevent breast cancer. It has been proven to help with osteoporosis as well as estrogen or HRT. There are also other kinds of meds. Also there are many, many, many different formulations of estrogen/progesterone combinations, if you want to experiment with different brands. Keep after you doctor, don't let him just shuffle off your concerns. Martha >>>>>>>>> >I asked if being low on estrogen would do any harm and he said " only cause osteoporosis " Great.... add that to all the pred and I should have great bones.
