Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!I am almost 3 wks post-op and

have been doing very well. I have been walking, and doing a little

shopping. I am going back to work on Monday. I do have one problem.

When I have been walking/standing for over 45 minutes or so I often

get a backache between my shoulder blades down by my bra strap. When I

lay down on a heating pad for a while it goes away. I've tried Tylenol

but it doesn't seem to help so when it gets bad I have to take the

pain reliever I got when I left the hospital.I called the Bariatric

Center and the Case Manager, thought it was muscle strain. Did

anyone else have this problem?

Pam-

I can not recall at what point this happened i think i was farther out than you are but i use to get this horrible burning feeling in the muscles in the armpit area and just up from the boobs and i would never know when it was going to happen, this has happened me on two different ares of loosing weight, but they all went away in time. I am not sure whats going on with you but hopefully it will get better, the way our weight shifts around and one layer of fat leaves that may have supported another area of fat causes all kinds of stuff i guess..................

glad to hear you are doing well otherwise

Pam E. Yes I had that same pain, it was gas that gets trapped in your body when the Dr. blows you up to do surgery. I had Lap, didn't you. Well if you did it's probably gas that's trapped, it hurts like hell and takes a while to move through your body to get it out. Finally after my back stopped hurting my right boob hurt down deep, then one side. So I had lots of gas, and it took a while to finally be able to burb and fart to get rid of gas well. I'm 7 months post op and I believe I've never farted so much in my life, but I don't hurt any more. Finally it's slowing down and I can make it to the rest room. Once I could get rid of the gas well sometimes it would just come even a surprise to me and sometimes embarrassing. Now I know and it's a lot better. I do believe this is probably what you have, still don't over do, it does hurt. Exercising, walking and all will help some. Donnagranela52

Thanks Colleen and Donna,

I think it may be the gas thing. I hope so at least. It's funny that

you still worry a little after surgery that you are doing everything

right.

Hi All,

I had my surgery the end of May, and the pain I sometimes have is on

my sides, by my breasts. I notice it the most after I work out, so

think it is from lack of support from my exercise bra. I have gone

from a 46DDD before surgery to around a 38DD (flat as a pancake...),

and it has been difficult to keep up with the ever-changing bra

sizes. Sometimes I feel like I'm always shopping for bras and that

is the one clothing item that I don't enjoy trying on.

Otherwise, I'm doing OK. When I first weighed in in February, I was

at 321, and I'm now hovering at around 205. Sometimes, when I take

a shower, I am amazed when I notice a hip bone or my shoulder blade,

because it has been so long since I felt it. I also get a thrill

from buying a standard size bracelet and feeling it jiggle on my

wrist. I am frustrated though because I also seem to be one of the

people who can now tolerate everything, so I really need to focus

not to backslide.

On a different, more difficult subject, I just started a new job

this summer. One of my coworkers had gastric bypass surgery about

five years ago and is the poster-child for what not to do. He is

still overweight (probably weighs 450 - 500 lbs)and as far as I can

tell does not follow any of the nutritional guidelines that are out

there. At dinner, he has appetizers, orders and eats a full meal,

two - three alcoholic drinks, and even had creme brulee once. We

went to lunch at a greek restaurant recently and he ordered a

regular lunch, soda, and an extra side of pita bread. After his

meals, he usually gets a panicked, uncomfortable look on his face,

starts sweating profusely, and disappears to the bathroom. I know

that he got ill at least one time because the car smelled like vomit

as we were driving back to the hotel, and no-one wants to be in a

room with him b/c he always has bad gas.

I get so many feelings as I watch his struggles - sadness, anger,

frustration - and don't quite know what to do. When he watches me

eat and decline certain foods, he smiles and tells me not to worry,

that I will be able to eat them again soon. Why would I want to do

this???!!! Why have surgery if your only goal is to get back to the

same patterns that gave you problems to begin with? I don't feel

comfortable enough with him to try to understand why he is

sabotaging himself, but it definitely serves as a warning of what

could be if I start down the " slipperly slope. "

Any thoughts?

Pam E. Worry is normal, look at me I'm 7 months post op and now not absorbing vitamins. We need to be aware of what our bodies are telling us, sometimes it's not much like gas, but hurts like hell. Then when we can think all is well, but thinking why am I hurting, dizzy, room spinning, then that's symptoms that we shouldn't over look. Not every one goes through things this far out, but we need to listen to our bodies and keep in touch with doctors when we're really not sure. I feel much better since I was to take many more vitamins, I will have new labs in Jan.. Still get more tired than when I did at 5 months, so we'll see what the new labs say. Take care. Sherri You will see and meet many people who go back to all the old bad habits, and that is what we know we don't want to do. When you are out to lunch and he says don't worry you'll be able to eat that later. Say even if I could I wouldn't I didn't have WLS to go back to being unhealthy, you do what you want but please don't try to tempt me. I want to stay healthy and keep my weight off. If he doesn't respect that then I wouldn't go out to eat with him. We can't control what other people do only ourselves and sometimes that's having to pick and chose who we hang out with. As far as feeling funny about ones body and seeing bones I do understand I came from 270 now at 139, I hit goal at 150, but my personal goal is 135, 4 more pounds. My breast have gone from 42EE, to 38C, almost B not much left. I am very happy and have improved my health sooooooooooo much, I won't let people mess my mind up with their food

problems, I have to keep it straight for myself, that's why I did WLS. So you stay strong on track and you'll be so much more happy. Take care. I am frustrated though because I also seem to be one of the people who can now tolerate everything, so I really need to focus not to backslide. On a different, more difficult subject, I just started a new job this summer. One of my coworkers had gastric bypass surgery about five years ago and is the poster-child for what not to do. He is still overweight (probably weighs 450 - 500 lbs)and as far as I can tell does not follow any of the nutritional guidelines that are out there. At dinner, he has appetizers, orders and eats a full meal, two - three alcoholic drinks, and even had creme brulee once. We went to lunch at a greek restaurant recently and he ordered a

regular lunch, soda, and an extra side of pita bread. After his meals, he usually gets a panicked, uncomfortable look on his face, starts sweating profusely, and disappears to the bathroom. I know that he got ill at least one time because the car smelled like vomit as we were driving back to the hotel, and no-one wants to be in a room with him b/c he always has bad gas. I get so many feelings as I watch his struggles - sadness, anger, frustration - and don't quite know what to do. When he watches me eat and decline certain foods, he smiles and tells me not to worry, that I will be able to eat them again soon. Why would I want to do this???!!! Why have surgery if your only goal is to get back to the same patterns that gave you problems to begin with? I don't feel comfortable enough with him to try to understand why he is sabotaging himself, but it definitely serves as a warning of

what could be if I start down the "slipperly slope."Any thoughts?Sherri> Hi
