hi,

i was curious - is it common for kids with clubfeet to curl their toes

in while they are walking? naomi has been walking for awhile, but

she's still very hestitant and we've noticed that she's started to

curl her toes in and under when she walks... not all the time... but

once in awhile.

i asked my doctor about it, and she said not to worry, but i just

wanted to hear from other parents who may be experiencing the same

thing...?

thanks,

maureen

i agree with you on that.. but i also think that the clubfoot babies do have

funny looking big toes.. grace's wrinkled toe nail deal is just a thing with her

i think.. but the big toe i have seen on several clubfoot babies in clinic

appts.. well.. the ones without casts anyways.. and her old doctor said that it

was normal on CF babies.. but her wrinkled toe nail thing i think comes from her

daddy's side..

I've been doing some checking into this and I think the things with

our babies toes and toenails is totally normal, and not necessarily

clubfoot related. Check out your other family members toes and nails

-- my hubby has thin, very flat toenails (no foot issues), I asked his

mom (she remembers EVERYTHING about her kids when they were babies,

lol) and she said his toenails did the funky growing up thing when he

was a baby and then gradually flattened out. And about the toes

growing funny usually does have to do with casting or shoes but can

also happen to non-clubfoot kids (and adults) who wear shoes that are

too small or have too narrow of a toe box.

Toes curling in is NOT clubfoot related and they will flatten out in

time. My son is unilateral left and his toes curled in on both feet

(almost to the point where you couldn't even see them when he was

standing). My ortho said it is very common and not clubfoot related.

I knew it wasn't clubfoot related, since it was on both feet and he was

unilateral, I just wanted to make sure it would fix itself. I remember

when he was 2 yrs of age they were still curling but not as bad. He is

three now an they are all flattened except for the little toe, but my

little toe curls as well so maybe his always will. Anyway it is

NOTHING to worry about but it does take a few years for the toes to

completely straighten out.

Hi Maureen,

Are you still planning to come out to BC in August with Naomi and dh

for that wedding? If so, this is something you could ask Dr. Pirani

(and be confident in the response).

Hope you guy's are still coming out, would love to meet you and your

little sweetie.
