Michele,

Dr. Dobbs (as well as some of the other Ponseti docs) are doing

genetic research to locate the gene that causes clubfoot. So far he

has been able to localize the involved gene and now needs to narrow it

down to the specific gene. The example he used is that if you

consider your whole genome as a map of the US-- what they have done so

far is like narrowing it down to St. Louis, now they just need to

narrow it down to the street and house. Ultimately they would like to

be able to devise gene therapy that would eliminate clubfoot altogether.

He is looking for patients who have one or more clubfoot affected

members in their family to participate in the study. If anyone is

interested in participating they can contact me at jagrindon@...

or email Dr. Dobbs directly at dobbsm@...

If anyone has any other questions please feel free to contact me or

post them to the board and I will do my best to answer them. Also,

Shelley, Dr. Dobbs secretary is a member of this group so she can

answer questions too.

hth,

Jenna (4/7/01) & Sammy (9/25/04, RCF, Dobb's Brace 16-18/7)

Sorry for the typo on this -- he is looking for families with TWO or

more clubfoot affected members.
