Guest guest
I haven't posted in awhile, but I need help and I knew you were the place to turn! Baby Ava is already 8 months and in the DBB 16 hrs/day. She is really banging around in her crib at night now that she is more mobile and she has been getting stuck a lot. Any tricks? Did you use a crib? Ours is metal so it is really really loud! Thanks so much. You are a blessing! Jayme and Ava

Guest guest
Hey Jayme and Ava, My son is also playing " music " in his crib. I read before here on this site that there are nets that you can buy, so they don't get stuck in the crib. I cannot remember anymore where you can buy it but it was around $35. This might also help with the noise. If not you could use the same, people use around the metal bar of the DBB (The " bumper " from the bicycle) I hope you understand this email. Obviously this is very vague info but maybe some other people can help out. Guest guest
We have rubber padding on Aleksander's bar, as well as quilted bar covers, but he still makes lots of noise. We also still have him in a modified sleep sack. Doesn't help muffle things much at all! I think he's training to be a percussionist in there half the time! He bangs on the sides of the crib, and slams his feet down on the mattress. It is pretty loud, but he really enjoys the noise so we haven't done anything yet to muffle things. Does your daughter mind the noise, or is it more of an issue of getting stuck? I wonder if you could find some rubber padding to put on the crib, in addition to the bar? It would quiet things down, and maybe narrow the slats so she can't get her feet in between them, while still leaving openings. Not sure where you'd find the padding... > > I haven't posted in awhile, but I need help and I knew you were the > > place to turn! > > > > Baby Ava is already 8 months and in the DBB 16 hrs/day. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions you two. Ava has always been really loud with her brace on- in fact she used to lift her little casts up and bang them on the crib mattress, too. I guess I'm not picturing the rubber padding you are referring to, but anything would be better than the sound of metal on metal throughout the night. And no, the sound doesn't seem to bother her but it scares both her and me when she gets stuck. Has anyone heard of any damage that can result from being stuck? I am so afraid she will break her leg or worse. I am tempted to put her in the playpen to sleep until I can find the netting or the padding that I need. Although I'm sure she won't sleep as well in there and we need our sleep. She still wakes 2 times or more per night to nurse, and I am not sure I can handle any more (this has been a long and fun 8 months- holy smokes!) If anyone has any specifics on padding or netting, any and all ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again!! Guest guest
Jayme, Welcome back! It's nice to see a post from you. It sounds like Ava is doing well all-in-all. Hurray! A couple of things you might try to reduce the noise at least. If you have a porta-crib with the soft sides, you could see if she'd sleep in that. (I see you are considering this already.) Crib bumper pads are an option, though those don't typically cover very much of the height of the slats. Many people fashion a pad for the bar of the FAB out of pipe insulation foam (available at any hardware store). Just cut a length of it, put it on the bar and secure with electrical or athletic tape. You could pad each slat of the crib in the same way if you are feeling ambitious. Perhaps that would not leave enough room for her to get her feet caught too. Hope this helps some. Guest guest
Jayme, We also had problems with crib-banging and the FAB getting stuck when was about 8 months old. We moved into his portable playpen crib when he was 11 months old and he used it until just 2 weeks ago. I was worried that it might not be comfortable, but after a 4 week holiday when he slept like a 'baby' in it, we sold his wooden crib and never looked back! His portable crib had a ventilated foam mattress in it cut to size, maybe that's why it was so comfortable for him. and 24 Jan 2003, bilateral www.clubfoot.co.za STEPS CHARITY www.steps.org.za jayme nelson wrote: Thanks for the suggestions you two. Guest guest
Hi Jayme. I have always used a bumper bad in the crib. I know it is against all the rules. If Ava is 8 months, she is old enough where you wouldn't have to worry. The bumper really helps keep their feet from getting caught between the slats and the noise down from banging. Guest guest
I did a quick search online and found a website that has some things you may be able to adapt for your crib. If you go to www.safehomeproducts.com, they have rubber padding made for corners of furniture, etc, that you can get in long strips. They also have something called Deckshield. It looks like some sort of cut to size saftey netting that they market for decks, but I bet you could use it for the crib instead. Or they have KidShield Indoor Banister Guard, which is pretty much the same thing, but made for indoors. As for the padding...I guess I was envisioning something like the padding they have around goals for soccer, and other sports. I found one site that has what I was thinking of: http://www.masa.com/store/detail.asp? product_ID=02795Q & sport= & source=PTech I also found it searching Yahoo for Roll Bar Padding. They use it in race cars: http://www.racecarsupply.com/html/rollbarpad.html Seems like it may be cheaper from the race car sites. This cracks me up! I think it is hilarious how parents have to find ways to adapt other products to work for kids! Race car padding on a crib....I'm going to chuckle about that image for a while today! Not sure how this would be intalled, but even if you couldn't use it on the crib, you may be able put it on the bar itself. If you were worried about the rubber, I have a pattern for bar covers that have velcro and are easy to make, if you wanted to try that too.... Let me know if you would like more info about the bar covers. I can e-mail you offline. kannhoudek@... > > > I haven't posted in awhile, but I need help and I knew you were > the > > > place to turn! > > > > > > Baby Ava is already 8 months and in the DBB 16 hrs/day. Guest guest
Hi, I am a bit hazy about this but I remember about a year ago someone posted on this site about protecting the crib from the bar and mentioned using sheets of foam core cardboard /corrigated plastic sheet (the stuff you might use to make a sturdy poster) which would make walls around the cot. It would be stiff so no issues of muffling or of getting caught between the bars. I though it sounded like a good low cast option at the time! Jasper's crib bars were never far enough apart for the shoes to be caught (he knew to bang away to get some attention through - baby sleepingbag/suit has halted that!)
