How old is Dominick?

My son is 6 months, and he isn't too fond of tummy time right now

either. But, we kind of trick him into it. When he's out of his

shoes, he's having so much fun kicking around, we just put him on his

belly and then he doesn't seem to mind as much.

Of course he is sitting up now, so he has no interest at all in

anything but sitting up. We can stand him up as well, but mostly he

just wants to sit up all the time.

I do find that we do have to make sure that when we put him on his

stomach that is is quite a while after he's eaten. I don't think it is

that comfortable for him to lie on his stomach just after he's eaten.

I guess I wouldn't want to do that either so it makes sense!

Gabe HATED tummy time till he was about 9 months old. Then he just snapped out

of it... He was in casts the majority of that time, but when he decided finally

that it was time to start crawling, he just wen tfor it. I was beginning to

think locomotion wasn't his thing. Turns out he was just a lazy boy.... After he

started crawling, it wasn't a week before he started pulling up. Crawling suited

him just fine for months, and now, finally, he's starting to cruise at 13 months.

He's been pushing one of those walkers around the past few days... It's so

amazing! His ankles are still pretty weak without the braces, but I think within

the next couple months anyway, he should be walking. Anyway, these kids know

when they are ready to do the next new thing. I was pretty stressed out about

the whole thing ( Only because Gabe was also born with craniosynostosis and some

left kidney hydronephrosis without reflux -- I guess it's pretty uncommon for

mutiple birth defects to be non-sydromic. I kept

waiting for something else to go wrong.) ,but Gabe is progressing now so

quickly --- He just wasn't ready to the things I thought he should be doing when

I thought he should be doing them.

did the same thing. He also had limited use of his arms because his

muscles were so tight. My PT had me on the floor with him. I would support is

forearm, so he would get the idea of what he was suppose to do. is 6.5

months old, and he is now very good on his forearms and finally starting to try

and push up to his hands but it is a struggle for him. I do the same thing by

letting him initiate the movement then giving him a little support. In the past

month, he has really started to love tummy time!

Hey Angie,

Aidan was the same way, especially when he got the shoes on. His physical

therapist said just start out slow 3 to 5 minutes at a time about 3 to 5 times a

day. Even if he cries don't give in. After about 3 minutes let him change

position. Now after saying that this was before Aidan could roll both ways so

it may be a little more difficult for you. However tummy time is important as

it builds stomach and neck strength.

Try laying on the floor with him, put a mirror in front of him or you lay day

then lay him on you on his stomach, so now you're face to face. Good luck to

you. I didn't think Aidan would ever do it now he sleeps on his stomach all the

time.
