Guest guest
it depends on the age of the child.. grace was 14 months old when she had her second tenotomy.. so she was only 23/7 for about 6 weeks.. then reduced to 18/7... but if she had been younger and not standing, cruising, etc then she would have been in the full 3 months.. how old is your little one? mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 14/7 --- williamson_adele wrote: > Does anybody know when a second tenotomy is > performed does the DBB go > back on again 24/7 for 3months?? Guest guest
Adele, I think so, it is pretty much like starting over. I do know some doctors will reduce the 23/7 time to 2 months or so if the child is older (i.e. of walking age). Guest guest
Connie is 10 months old and standing well, but not putting her heel down most of the time. - In nosurgery4clubfoot , Caroland <lcaroland@y...> wrote: > it depends on the age of the child.. grace was 14 > months old when she had her second tenotomy.. so she > was only 23/7 for about 6 weeks.. then reduced to > 18/7... but if she had been younger and not standing, > cruising, etc then she would have been in the full 3 > months.. how old is your little one? > > mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 14/7 > > --- williamson_adele <williamson_adele@y...> > wrote: > > > Does anybody know when a second tenotomy is > > performed does the DBB go > > back on again 24/7 for 3months?? Guest guest
Hi, I understand your hesitation. My daughter did not have the tenotomy and she's just fine. She had a mild case of CF from the getgo though and they told me she probably wouldn't need the tenotomy after her first few casts had been applied. She has excellent dorsiflexion which was the main indicator. Can you send us pics of his foot with you pushing his toes as far past " L " as possible? If he's got good dorsiflexion, the shoes stay on properly all the time and he's able to stand flat footed on the floor it may not be needed. However, if he shows signs of that tendon being tight still it's probably in his best interest to do it. I personally wouldn't hesitate if it was recommended to me. It really can help the foot and this is why it's done on most CF babies (about 80% I think). Did they say at first he didn't need it (after the last cast) and now they're saying otherwise? If so, there's probably some reason they have changed their minds and you should find out exactly why. It is not really a big surgery and babes do very well with it so if it needs to be done, get it done sooner than later because it will be another 3w cast and then starting over in the brace 23/7 for 3 mo's. Or at least it should be. Kori At 07:58 AM 6/22/2005, you wrote: >My son Max has been through 7 castings using the Ponseti technique, and >I am very happy with the progress made.
