Guest guest
Hello. I just thought I would introduce myself. My name is BJ. My wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy (Jayson) a couple weeks ago (May 24th). He was born with a club foot on his left leg. We were referred to Dr. Ward and Dr. Deeny at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. We have already started Ponseti treatment for his foot and are in the second cast. Dr. Ward directed my wife and I to this Yahoo group so that we could gain more information about his condition. Hopefully the more information we gain, the easier the experience will be on both us and Jayson. Anyway, I'm sure you will be hearing more from me in the future. A hearty " HELLO " to you all. -BJ

Guest guest
BJ, I am curious, it is highly encouraging that your Dr. Ward referred you to this group, but I don't see his (or her??) name on Dr. Ponseti's list of physicians certified in the method (or Dr. Deeny's), in fact no docs in PA at all Here's the link to the list in case you are interested: http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians.html I'm wondering if there is anyone on the group who has experience with either of these two docs; I'm sure someone will jump in here if they have. I only mention this because there are some doctors who claim to be using the Ponseti method but then alter the method without such good results. You might want to just mention the question when you go for your next casting appointment, they will probably tell you they are in the process of being certified (great!) but it never hurts to ask. Anyway, just a thought. Jenna (4/7/01) & Sammy (9/25/04, RCF Dobbs Brace 16-18/7) > Hello. I just thought I would introduce myself. My name is BJ. Guest guest
, I was actually wondering about that myself. I will be sure to find out next week when we take Jayson in for his 3rd cast. I do know that he gave us the actual Ponseti booklet that details the procedure in graphic/medical detail. He did tell me that he follows the Ponseti procedure to the word, so I would assume that he is on his way to being certified...... Assumptions can only get you so far. As far as our situation, I think the closest certified doctor is in Cleveland, Ohio... Thanks for the info! -BJ > > Hello. I just thought I would introduce myself. My name is BJ. Guest guest
& Jen, We actually live about 15 - 20 miles south of Pittsburgh, near the Century 3 area... I did however live in Beaver, Beaver County until about 2 years ago and went to college in Clarion, so I'm very familiar with the general area.. What doctors in the area do you have experience with? Guest guest
BJ, You could also contact Dr. Ponseti to see if he has any record of Dr. Ward attending any of his symposiums/training seminars. Guest guest
BJ, My Mom is from Freedom, isn't that close to Beaver? We live In town in Mercer County near Pymatuning Lake. Actually, we have very limited experience with local doctors. Livie's first doctor was an orthopedic surgeon in Mercer County who had never heard of the Ponseti Method. We switched to Erie Shriners where they claimed to be using Ponseti, but were not. We then switched to a doctor in Kentucky, but he wasn't able to correct her foot. We finally just took Livie to see Dr. Ponseti in Iowa. We saw Dr. Ponseti in May and will be going back again in February. Livie is 3.5 years old now, but when she was born there weren't any doctors at Children's using the Ponseti Method. I am delighted to hear that there are now! It would have been so much easier for us to drive to Pittsburgh!! There was another Mom on the list a few months back that was seeing somebody at Children's also. She was from New Castle, but I haven't heard from her in awhile to see how her little one is doing. I hope things continue to go well for Jayson and look forward to hearing of his progress!
