LOL Re: About to get the bar - any advice would be GREAT Kate, Everyone else has given you the practical advice, I will just answer you last question. Yes, you baby can roll over in the bar. And crawl, pull themselves up, climb stairs, cruise furniture, terrorize the house, empty all the drawers, even walk a bit behind a push toy. It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen. These kids are adaptable and their brains are telling them to move, so they move. Some days I wish the bar would slow my youngest down a bit. Good luck. mom to Tenny 7/15/ 04 FAB 18/7 About to get the bar - any advice would be GREAT Hi All, My name is Kate Strzinek. I live in Springfield, VA. This is my first night on this site. My son Jack has a right club foot and we are working with Dr. Herzenberg at the Mt. Sinai Rubin Institute. Jack is getting his final cast removed on Friday and we are ready for the appointment with the Markel shoes and 8 " bar. Conforming to the standard Ponsetti approach, we are going to wear the device for 23h/day for 3 months then will move to just nighttime. Can anyone recommend tips for the first week in the shoes? certain socks? Does it hurt? Will we need Tylenol? Do babies roll over with the bar? Jack has rolled a few times with his single cast - do you think he will be able to swing an 8 " bar? Any suggestions or advice would be great. Thanks Kate

Guest guest
Kate, welcom to this list. You have definitely come to the right place! There is a tips document in the files section on this site. If you click the files tab to the left of this page and then scroll down, you should see a document called FAB.doc. This excellent tips document was put together by Kori (frogabog) and should get you through that first week without any problems. Of course, if you do encounter problems, please do not hesitate to come here directly for help! I'm going to try to paste the link for you here, but in case it doesn't work, please go to the files tab as mentioned above. http://f3.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/gK2tQjfJMFpBDoNKi_OXlo6u5W6RCuoE6A7p6ZlH4 tTj23LDAbyXcUk1XjO6W32UTHF8RPpLAI2R2bYl97zS8lX1wq43jQ/FAB.doc Hope this helps, Daiga and Owen, 02/04/03 Unilateral LCF, FAB 14/7 > Hi All, > > My name is Kate Strzinek. Guest guest
Kate, I noticed that your appointment is for a Friday. Before your appointment, I would encourage you to find out if they have anyone that will be available over the weekend just in case you have problems. We too started the shoes near the weekend, and Aleksander needed to get in ASAP to address the problems he was having with the shoes. Since no one was available over the weekend to help, and we couldn't put the shoes back on him since they were causing him so many problems, we ended up leaving them off of him for the remainder of the weekend, and had to call first thing Monday to get him in. He ended up in casts again until his feet were healed. Had someone been available over the weekend, we may have avoided that 3 week setback. If they do not have weekend staff available, and if you can, you may want to see if you can get in on Monday instead of Friday. I know when we had the Friday appointment, we thought it would be better because then we'd deal with his adjustment to the shoes/bar, rather than daycare. Turned out we would have been far better off waiting a few more days and having the staff available. Otherwise, that tips sheet is a lifesaver! We used it tons at first. Good luck! > > Hi All, > > > > My name is Kate Strzinek. I live in Springfield, VA. This is my > first > > night on this site. Guest guest
Hello Kate! Glad to see you here. Everyone on here can give you great advice and guidance. I can mail you a copy of the tips and tricks of the DBB if you give me your address. You can email me separately. Also, it is in the file section of this site. Also, I will have to give you the name of the shoe store in Arlington that has the DBB, if you don't have it already. (I have to look it up or get it from Joanne Walton). Welcome to the group!! Guest guest
Kate, Everyone else has given you the practical advice, I will just answer you last question. Guest guest
Definitely! Aleksander has been progressing on time, despite the casting, shoes/bar, and being premature. These kids find a way to do what they want, when they want. Oh, and don't be surprised if you get asked strange questions about the bar. I've had lots of people come up when I have Aleksander sitting on my knee and ask " Is that some kind of new Boppy thing? " Because the bar helps hold him on my leg a little better, I guess they think it is a new developmental aid. Cracks me up every time! I guess it must be the covers we have on the bar or something....or that Aleksander is just happily kicking the crap out of my leg. When I tell them it is to correct clubfoot, they are almost always surprised and embarassed. > Kate, > Everyone else has given you the practical advice, I will just answer you last question.
