Guest guest
On the Ponseti brace, you measure bar length from center screw to center screw right? And when measuring shoulder width? I know this seems like a dumb question, but I tend to make things a lot more technical that they really are....:} Gabe shoulder width is, I think, 11 inches.... that just seems so wide.... __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I don't have the paper that came with Darbi's brace but the orthotist read on that sheet that it was heel to heel. He checked because he wanted to set it up according to mfr. specifications because if you may remember... the other orthotist and I had a serious disagreement about that a few weeks back. I think they were hoping that it would say bolt to bolt (or rather screw to screw on the PM brace) but it didn't and because it didn't, the orthotist thought it was noteworthy and told me it was heel to heel. He said, " I know it's heel to heel because it's on this instruction sheet that came with " I knew that without the instruction sheet :~} Kori At 12:37 PM 6/16/2005, you wrote: >On the Ponseti brace, you measure bar length from center screw to center >screw right? Guest guest
Center screw to center screw is the guideline we use. That is how Dr. P set up Ava's and on one visit he lengthened them himself that way. HTH, KK > On the Ponseti brace, you measure bar length from center screw to center screw right? Guest guest
Well, Dr. P set our daughter's up heel to heel. I guess it all depends. Guest guest
Lily got her Ponesti/ brace yesterday & the instruction sheet that came with it said to set the length " back of heel to back of heel. " Still had to fight a bit with the orthotist to get her to set it that way (she hadn't read the instructions until I pointed them out to her). We love this FAB & shoes!! Shoes fit Lily like a glove. Once we got the tongue in the right place (there's a pic on the instruction sheet that shows the correct placement but I probably wouldn't have noticed it if Bridget hadn't sent us her pic), we haven't had any other trouble. Interestingly enough, our straps fit through the buckles just fine (was prepared for them to be too wide based on the experience of Kori & others). Anyway, we're very happy campers (let's hope we stay that way after our insurance company weighs in). Guest guest
Fantastic! I'm glad Lily got her shoes and they're fitting so well. I didn't even look at the brochure that close either, I let them have it at the Orthotists thinking it was better with them than me. We're still fighting the tongue a bit, it pops out of the straps a lot and I think Darbi's feet are just at that in between size where the existing holes are either too tight or too loose. Also, I am pretty sure had to make a new pattern for her shoes, they're pretty big. Probably the largest he's made to date. So perhaps the pattern was just a little off? The edges are all frayed now and they're sliding through a bit easier but not as easy as I'd like. A few days ago she fell and skidded up the top of her left foot. I've been putting bandaids on it with medicine ever since but it's not healing right. So tonight dh suggested she sleep without her shoes to see if it'd heal a bit. It's like a crater now... and it should have a scab or something on it by now, not a weepy cratery looking thing. But when I went to lie her in her bed (yes, she's sleeping in her own bed now... at least part of the night) she asked for her shoes. I told her I wanted her owie to heal and she seemed to accept that. Then she lay there and kicked her feet all around, and got out of bed. Came into brother's room and asked for her shoes again. Alright... Fine... I put them on. Laid her down again and she went right to sleep. Weird kid! I am actually kind of dreading her graduating from these things... will she ever go to sleep without shoes? lol At least she doesn't hate them anymore :~} Kori At 11:29 AM 6/18/2005, you wrote: >Lily got her Ponesti/ brace yesterday & the >instruction sheet that came with it said to set >the length " back of heel to back of heel. Guest guest
I too was wondering if Darbi's shoes were the largest had made (and if that was contributing to the issues you were having). Funny how attached the older kids are to their shoes! And very glad to hear she's accepting her new FAB. I hope her foot has healed. Thanks to you Kori, as always, for sharing the details of your adjustment to the P/M brace. It's always so helpful to the rest of us. I had opportunity the past two nights to put her down asleep (we were out late) without her shoes so she hasn't worn them. It's FINALLY got a scab on the top. I'm pretty sure she's ok not wearing them because she's so old and so corrected... but they're going back on tonight. I hope it doesn't get all weepy again. ugh! I hated to do it, but it just was NOT healing. The owies on her elbows were healed 3 days ago and this one... just not healed at all.
