Guest guest
Okay, I know I know this but can those of you who have children who have had the ATTT surgery please answer the following: Did you have it done in Iowa or somewhere else? How long did your child stay in the hospital? How long were the casts on? What was the follow up schedule? Did you have to continue wearing the FAB after the surgery? How long did the pain last for your child? What age did your child have the surgery? I think that's about it for now. Dr. P is talking this surgery for so I'm fact finding. Chris Don't tell God how big your storm is, tell the storm how big your God is.

Guest guest
Thanks - we think that we'll have them do it even though we have a very competent ortho surgeon here just because we know that it is their passion and they care for the whole person. If it's only one night stay then that's very doable. Thanks again! Guest guest
Chris- Did you have it done in Iowa or somewhere else? Jake had his ATTT surgery done by Dr Dietz at the University of Iowa (he works with Dr Ponseti) How long did your child stay in the hospital? Just overnight. His surgery was in the morning (I think around 8am or so) and he left just after lunch the following day. He would have left sooner but we were waiting for his prescriptions to be filled. How long were the casts on? 6 wks. What was the follow up schedule? Jake went in at 6 wks to have the cast taken off and the suture removed. Then it was to be every 3 mos or so (Jake's case was complicated by him breaking his leg [the clubfoot leg] about 7 mos after the surgery, so our follow-up schedule was different). Did you have to continue wearing the FAB after the surgery? No, we were told he wouldn't need it anymore. Although, since Jake is needing to have the surgery re-done, I will ask if stretching exercises would be beneficial for his achilles tendon (it is very very tight again already). How long did the pain last for your child? Jake was very cranky and uncomfortable for the first 24 hrs. After that, he did not appear to be terribly uncomfortable, but I continued to give him pain medication pretty much on a schedule for the first 2-3 days, and then at nap & bedtime probably for a week or so. For Jake, figuring out what he could & could not do independently was more of an issue than pain, in my opinion. What age did your child have the surgery? Jake was just over 3 yrs old, when he had the surgery the first time. We are hoping to schedule his second surgery for this fall and he will be 4 1/2 by then. Sorry I didn't see your post sooner- I don't have time to read all the emails these days!! Feel free to email me personally if you'd like more information.
