Janelyse got her DBB today and when the orthotist measured her

shoulders he measured across the front, I would swear he measured her

too big. Are they suppposed to measure across the front or the back? I

would think the back would give a more accurate measurement as when he

measured he laid the tape measure on her and it seemed to measure

bigger. She ended up with an 8 (she measured a 7 and the only ones the

orthotist had were a 6 or 8). Does that sound right? I was pleased

with the way he fit the shoes, he put in an extra insert in the heel

area so it's curved around her heel and doesn't rub against the shoes.

She does try to keep her toes curled when I put the DBB on though so

that is fun. But my other two did the same thing with their shoes at

this age too, lol, and they weren't " special " shoes. Oh, and my 4 year

old loves this thing, he keeps telling me " Mommy, Janelyse has a cool

skateboarder brace now! "

Marcia,

I think this sounds okay, I believe the non-adjustable bars only come

in even inch increments but I think they normally err on the side of

longer is better. It is when the bar starts getting too short that

they start losing dorsiflexion and/or slipping out of the shoes. I

have usually seen the measurement taken from the back, although our

orthotist never even measured Sammy, he just " eyeballed " it and had

it right on the money. I think, from the previous discussions on

these boards that the most important thing is that the baby is

comfortable in the brace, again, too small is usually where they seem

to start getting uncomfortable. HTH.

O.k., thanks. Actually, he did eyeball it initially, but I questioned the size

of the bar so he got out the tape measure and showed me. Oh, and she managed to

pull her foot out of the shoe last night...I was wondering why she went from

screaming off and on to sleeping peacefully, ha!
