Guest guest
How do you know if a child has apraxia? My 3 year old is non verbal except for bye bye, go, and eye. These are the only words that other people can understand. He can say all the letter sounds, but cannot say the letters themselves. He will try to say anything that I tell him to, but it is very hard to understand. On command he can say mama, and dada. Often times his " words " come out as the 1st or last consonant sound. For example dog is " ga " Boat, Bridge, Barn, are all " ba " Puzzle is " pu " Up is " pu " clock is " kah " Drink is " Kah uh " Open is " deh duh " Boo is " bah " , but Boo Boo is " boo " Moo is " mah " Cow is " cah " Money is " mah mah " , Hi is " ha " etc. You get the idea. We have been through 3 speech therapist with no luck. No one seems willing or able to make a diagnosis. He is in ABA therapy for autism and it is very language based. Language and immitation are his main issues. He is very social. He makes more progress there and with BabyBumble Bee than with the speech therapist. His receptive is about equal with his expressive. I am about to go crazy not knowing if he will ever talk, or if I am even doing the right thing.
