Guest guest
Dina, I started with a BMI of 69, and it's now down to 58. I still have about 200 lbs to go. I have a friend that had surgery with Dr. Rabkin in October of 1999, and has lost about 215 lbs. She is looking fabulous and is now down to a size 12/14 from a 32 or bigger. She is getting ready for her breast lift and tummy tuck coming up. So, it is possible. I for one, am counting on it! Kim Dr. Anthone DGB/DS open 4/18/01 -74 and counting

Guest guest
Hi Dina, I'm 34 with a BMI of 46. In know you're looking for higher BMIs and I can't speak from personal experience yet (surgery date: July 30); however, I've been attending support groups since August of 2000 and have met many post-ops who have achieved normal BMI levels. At one of the meetings a man who pre-op weighed 500 pounds now looks like a lean tall person who never had a weight problem. It truly is amazing. In many respects, the amount of weight you lose is still in your hands...the difference is that it is a life-long loss, you WILL lose weight, after 18 months or so (after you pass what I call the baby portions) you can eat like normal people do and not worry about regaining weight. Exercise and smart food choices (avoid the sugars) are still important, but your body cannot absorb as many calories as it once could because food is not in the absorbing-intestine long enough. I know you'll get tons of responses, so I'll sign off...hope this is helpful. Dory > Hi all, I have a question... > > I know that the DS is recommended for people with a BMI over 50. Guest guest
Dina, The SMO patients usually loose about 2/3 of their excess weight. I.e. if you were 300 lbs overweight then you would likely loose 200 lbs. It is possible but not likely that you will loose 100% of your excess. If you have 200 lbs to loose to get to your ideal weight then you will probably loose about 134 lbs. This would leave you with 66 unwanted pounds. Not skinny, but a whole lot better off. Some will loose a bit more, and some less. Hull > Hi all, I have a question...
> > I know that the DS is recommended for people with a BMI over 50. Guest guest
i dont know if that is the usual....seems like most get active as they get smaller and lose more. If you do nothing but the surgery you wont lose it all, but if you work it you can lose it all or almost all. I could be wrong but that is the impression I have gotten from my surgerical consult. Its what you put into it.
