Guest guest
Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the nosurgery4clubfoot group: If a " true " Ponseti method doctor recommended surgery for your child, what would you do? We are in this situation, we have even called Dr. Ponseti, and he said we have one of the best doctors and if he says our son needs surgery then he is confident he does. o Go ahead with the surgery, you know a Ponseti method doctor would not do surgery unless is was very neccessary. o Go to another Ponseti method doctor and see what their opinion is, if they say the same go ahead o Wait until your child is in pain or discomfort then opt for the surgery. o Never ever do surgery no matter what, just wait.... o Other: E-mail me with your others please at chele323232@... Guest guest
I'm going to reply on list, just because I have a few questions... First off, I think I'd seek at least one second opinion. Just for peace of mind. Second, how old is the child? And what is the reason for the surgery? Third, what surgery is being talked about? The ATTT? If so, it's not too uncommon to have this done. Remember, approximately 5% of feet treated with the Ponseti Method will require the ATTT. If done on a Ponseti corrected foot it is much less invasive than any of the other surgeries and works well. Additionally, after it's done there's no more need for the FAB. So that's something to look forward to I suppose. 4th, has any re-casting been tried on this foot? I'm assuming it's a relapse and not a foot that has never been corrected. Please tell us more about how this came about. I can't place your email address with who you are so I can't remember your story, sorry. I'm a dolt. 5th, as far as waiting till they're in discomfort... what does that mean in reference to your child? Age will play a factor here, if the child is going into Kindergarten next year it'd be best to get all this done over the summer so they're free of post surgery casts by the time school starts. Whatever the case, I think I'd still want a second opinion about the surgery. A hand's on opinion from a very qualified doc. What doc is your child seeing anyway? I think if any doc other than Dr. Dobbs or Herzenberg recommended surgery I'd ask at least one more doc for peace of mind. I would have to say that either of those docs would have exhausted all other options before coming to this conclusion and would lean more towards blindly trusting them. Any other doc, depending on what the history of this foot is of course, I would not necessarily blindly trust initially and would seek a second opinion. Seeking a second opinion for ANY surgery is not a bad thing. Even if it only confirms what your doc says. Kori At 05:53 AM 6/28/2005, you wrote: >Enter your vote today!
