Hi all,

I just wanted to make an observation, I know that a large majority of

us are also members of the " clubfoot " group, but I have noticed

lately that a lot of our eloquent and very persuasive advice has been

missing from that board. I know that group is supposed to be a

mixture of people who have used both non-surgical and surgical

methods but I have noticed a few parents recently (last 2-3 weeks)

posting there about possibly having surgery for their young children

or using AFO's and our responses have been, in my humble opinion, not

nearly as vocal as they need to be. There is one mom who I have been

corresponding with trying hard (without attacking her) to convince

her not to have a soft tissue release (not sure what procedure is) on

her 16 month old until she has had a 2nd opinion w/ a certified

Ponseti doc, I've not been very successful in convincing her but I

thought if you ALL chime in she might be more convinced. I know it

is hard to keep up with both boards, I haven't even been online for

almost a week! but I feel it is almost our " duty " to keep giving our

excellent advice to the parents on both boards! Thanks to all of

you!!

Sorry ,

I JUST went back on mail for that list like yesterday. Been on no-mail

since the puter problems started. Missed a lot I see... I will try to

become my usual PITA self there again for ya. Have to look through to see

what you're referring to. So sad to hear that for whatever reason... docs

are still doing this. Like in the few months I was gone some kind of

miracle occurred and they're all doing Ponseti Method now. mmmm... ya

right Kori.

I agree . I practically begged someone else to support me a couple posts

ago... Big emplorement in the title of the post... You were the only one to

repond. It was pretty frustrating. Not to mention, it seemed like that

particular individual was ignoring things she didn't want to hear. Kori, glad to

hear you'll be your old outspoken self again... I thought you'd become a bit shy

with your opinions. When you speak up, other people seem to follow your lead.

I'm still in the thick of it with Gabe. He's been a handfull lately, but I'll

try harder to respond to more posts.

With the clubfoot list, I find that I tend to respond to emails off-list. I

have my reputation to think of, after all, and since I am planning on running

for public office soon... No, really, it's largely because I get that list in

" digest " which makes it much easier to respond directly to a poster's email

address.

I know exactly who you are talking about... I emailed her as well and enlisted

both and ee to send her notes (ee forwarded the response she

got from her). It is truly bewildering to me why she is being so un-hearing

about this. Have any of us ever found out where she is and who is treating her

son so that we can give her specific names of doctors and contact info?

In any case, I'll do more to respond on-list over there as well.

Naomi,

I'm so glad to hear this, your posts are always awesome! And I was

going to email and appeal to her as well, great minds think

alike! I just don't get why she won't even just get a second

opinion. And no, I have not gotten ANY details from her. I would

love to hear what her response to ee was, lol.

Thanks,

'Fraid not... she never responded to a single one of our suggestions. It was

almost like she never even read them. I do hope she took that poor boy in to get

recasted, but she seemed oblivious to that particular suggestion. Pity.

well, I did it. I stayed up all night and wrote a ridiculously long post

and was pretty bold. I may need some help if she takes me up on my offer

to find people to give testimonials about docs saying surgery was the only

option who then found a good doc. So all you parents out there... I'll be

looking for you! Hopefully!

I get shy for a while, then jump back in with both feet. I've got my

flameproof suit on! Now I need a bit of sleep...

well, I did it.

I would be happy to respond to her as well. I am not on the other

message board...but I'd be happy to send an e-mail about the

importance of second opinions. Perhaps I can offer a different non-

clubfoot perspective too since we dealt with so many problems with my

husbands treatment for mitral valve prolapse. I know they aren't

related per se, but the fact is, we should have gotten a second

opinion for him too....and that was for open heart surgery! Duh! At

least we've wisened up for Aleksander!

I, too, tend to email people off-list from the clubfoot board if I

know my opinion will be too much to handle for the board itself.

It's hard for me to walk the tightrope on that board. Well-meaning

posts are taken as offensive to certain members nearly every time.

I hate when a board is in chaos due to " flame-throwing " as I feel it

turns away the very families that need the most help. After I was

attacked years ago, I changed my approach on that board. Even

, who has the *most* p.c./neutral posts of us all, is viewed

as being a hostile Ponseti-pusher there!

Just FYI- many of us are reaching out to the people on that board,

but it's off-line.

Hi,

I am new to the club and have a 3 month old with blcf. He is now in the DBS

and has developed blistering. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should

do? This is his first week in the shoes.

Thanks

Kori,

I thought your post to her was quite well done, and not quite as

blunt as you usually are! I have emailed her separately and

suggested that she check out what is being said but I don't know if

she will. I also put in another plea myself even though I keep

telling her I won't bug her about it anymore. I'm keeping my fingers

crossed that something trips her trigger.

Thanks,

,

I'm really glad, I actually never thought about people just emailing

off group, duh! lol! I know what you mean about the board getting a

little testy, not sure what the deal is with that; we should all be

in this together! I honestly think the parents who get offended are

the ones who did surgery because they thought it was a quick fix and

now they regret it; it is just sad that there are still so many docs

out there STILL not using the Method.

Thanks,
