Guest guest
The gold bar is actually the DBB " Dennis Browne Bar " but there are different kinds. One that attaches to the shoe and you must remove the shoes with the bar together and there is the gold one that can be removed while the shoes remain on the child's feet. Good Luck with the new baby! HTH Question on Bars? My wife Rache l and I (Tim) are expecting the deliveru of our child on 9/16. We have already done alot of research and have found a very good doctor who uses the " Ponsetti Method " however I saw a posting in reference to the " Gold Bar " vs. the DBB can someone help clarify the differences and benefifits for and I? Guest guest
Hi Tim and and little one, This message seems to have gotten buried by others, and I don't see that anyone else has replied. Following the casting period, babies are fitted with a brace that helps to maintain the correction. This is a pair of shoes that attach to a bar. Some people refer to it as the Denis Browne Brace (DBB) after its inventor. Many of us here refer to it as the Foot Abduction Brace (FAB). My son, who just turned 2, calls it " my walks " or " my bar " . Most of us here use the Markell brand shoes (white open-toed shoes with laces and a strap) and either a fixed-length bar (these are gold) or an adjustble bar (red). Check out the Markell site for pictures of all of this: http://www.markellshoe.com There are a few other FAB designs that are not so commonly used. Dr Dobbs, in St Louis, MO, uses a hinged bar that allows the baby to move her/his legs independantly. And , in Iowa, has designed a more comfy brace that is currently being hand-made on demand. Hope this answers your question. If you have any others, you have certainly come to the right place! You are in good hands with Dr Herzenberg. Eventhough I am a firefighter/Paramedic who even taught Pediatric Advanced Life Support through johns Hopkins to M.D.'s, RN's and Paramedics. This is an emotional time and while and I are trying to deucate ourselves and try to prepare the other two boys for this it quite often seems that some of the best answers and advise can only come from those people who have gone through the same experiences. Thankyou once again from and I. > > > >
