Guest guest
Hi Kori, I'm not sure if our website is working right now but if it is it has all the details to Collin's history it's at http://www.geocities.com/chele323232 .Collin will be 4 in August his doctor is Dr. Herzenberg, we have been seeing Dr. H since Collin was 2.5. The surgery reccommended is the taylor spatial frame for correction of his relapse. It consists of a casting 4 weeks prior to surgery. Then surgery to put on the device and a hospital stay of 1-5 nights from what I've heard. Then he will wear the device for about 12 weeks during that time I will take him to physical therarpy 2-3 times a week, then do it everyday at home, we will turn the keys on it daily. He will have a walker/wheel chair I think in the very begining or very end??? Then he will have surgery to remove the device (I think outpatient). Then will go in to casts for a few weeks, then into an AFO for about a year. And more physical therapry during that time. I feel like Dr. H is one of the best, so its hard to decide to see for a second opinion.... When I called Dr. Ponseti he just said Dr. H is great...one of the best... and my sons in good hands, etc... In the past Collin has been recasted etc by Dr. H, but to no long term avail, I think that is why we are looking at surgery, etc.. I hope I answered all of your questions, any advice and/or info. would be kindly appreciated! Michele

Guest guest
Thank you for the kind words Kori. The fixator deffianly isn't as bad as it looks, I'm the same as you the more I learn about it the less cruel I find it to be. It looks terribly invasive however it has much less invasive effects then traditional surgies. Say we go ahead and do it and 5 years from now he relapses again. Dr. H says it is such a noninvasive procedure to the insides that it will be as if he never had surgery, there will not be tons of scar tissue build up, etc. I am confident it Dr. Herzenberg I think he is a genuis, however your right, I think I just need someone else to tell me that this is the right way to go so I feel better about it. Dr. H says there are other surgery possiblities but this he said is our best option and the leaset invasive to the body. I talked to my husband tonight (it's kind of been on the back burner in our home since January...we haven't really talked about it) but now that I'm feeling better I haven't slept well the last few nights I'm laying in bed now thinking about Collin's foot, etc... so I knew I needed to get back up to date with things, research again, etc and just go ahead and make a decision so we can get started so this will all be finished by the time he starts kindegarden. I'm going to call out to Iowa I think and see how the get the second opinon ball rolling, but if they agree and say this is a good idea and agree with Dr. H I will let Dr. H do the surgery, etc. Thanks again for your insight and help!
