Guest guest
Mohamed from Dr. Elariny's Arlington office called me today and left me a message on my voice mail that my insurance company has approved my surgery! I must have played that message over at least 5 times as I kept thinking he should be saying " your insurance company HASN'T approved you for surgery " but I realized he would not have worded it this way if I was denied. I called him and asked for a confirmation again and yep, sure enough I'm approved. :-) I was calling from my cell phone on the Beltway and nearly wrecked the car I was so startled! I don't think it too them more than 48 hours! This is good news because I thought I was going to be in for a fight. Now Dr. E's is going to be away for August so Mohamed will call me in September to schedule my surgery. Hopefully I'll be on the other side by the end of September. I still have an unexpected hurdle to go through and I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem. I had my Gall Bladder removed in 1998 via Lap surgery. However, there seems to have been a stone left behind in the bile duct. This was realized back in February on a CAT scan I had when I passed a Kidney stone. Ironically it has started to bother me in giving me pain and discomfort. At my consult with Dr. E. he said it has to go and I'm in complete agreement. I'm consulting with a Gastro doc who will want to do an ERCP to remove the stone. The catch, he hesitates on doing it for patients over 350 lbs. I have just arrived (thanks to stupid no-care eating I've been doing lately) at this number. :-( My Sonogram last week in an attempt to locate the stone came back as inconclusive. Actually the report as read to me by my PCP nurse said " Patient too Obese/Fat to get an accurate reading " . Talk about rude, even though it's the truth you'd think they could be more sensitive about it. Anyway, that report was sent to the Gastro via FAX and most likely I will have to call them tomorrow to set up an appointment or find out if they want to do another CAT scat. (The Feb Cat scan report only made a notation " Gallstone " which actually caused some confusion as the Gastro at first thought I still HAD my Gallbladder.) Dr E. said he can do the Sleeve Gastrectomy first..then when I'm at a good weight for the ERCP that can be done and after that I can have a safer less risky " Switch " . I like that idea a lot, especially if it is less riskier. However, I'm afraid to have any kind of surgery down there with this stone still in the duct. It makes me nervous especially because it increases risk of Pancreatitis. Not sure how it's all gonna play out yet, but I do know that one hurdle is out of the way. Now, on to the next! ERCP, Sigmoidoscopy & Fluoroscope here I come! Yippy Skippy! Guest guest
Hello , My name is and I'm 6 days post op. Dr. " E " did my surgery at INOVA Fairfax hosp just last week. Well let me assure you he is a wonderful surgon. I have already had my gallbladder out for years but I can understand your dilema. Please talk to Dr. " E " and follow his advice. He is very knowledgeable on what the body can take along with this surgery and the complications that can arise from other problems. It did not take long for them to get me approved also and I was being switched with in 3 weeks after that. If I can be of any help with questions or information, please feel free to write me at bjsitton1@.... Looking forward to seeing you on the other side. God Bless You, M.
