Hi Gail,

Why do you ask about the skin breaking out???!!!!???? I just got back from

the Dermatologist. I'm so upset about my face. Tiny bumps all over it -

looks like what I would call a heat rash. The Dr. wasn't sure what it was, I

guess that's why he named it something like contact dermatitis. He wants me

back in three weeks and if it isn't better he wants to do a punch biopsy -

isn't that nice! He gave me Cetaphil soap, DesOwens lotion and a topical

antibiotic. I'm just praying this helps.

I'm at four months now. This happened right around three months and I was

just lucky to get an appt. so soon - had to go out of state to get it. Here

in Mobile it would be next year before any dermatologists had any openings.

Anyway, my hair started falling out at three months also. I actually find

it's not as bad as when it started and it doesn't even show yet. No dry

skin, though, and no nails breaking.

Please let me know if you've ever heard of the skin rash before. This is

very upsetting.

Someone else was recently talking about their skin breaking out, that it

might have been fat modules? under the skin, and that it went away maybe a

few weeks later, I think it might have been Steve? if my memory serves me

Gail,

I am 14 weeks out (or will be tomorrow) and my hair started falling out right

on schedule, about two weeks ago. My nails are growing great though and

appear to be very healthy. My skin is somewhat dry, but that may be due to

not getting in enough liquids.

Wow, I thought I'd heard every possible question, Gail! I'm about 8

months post-op and my nails have not changed at all. My skin has

though...for the better. I was always troubled by breakouts prior to

surgery but my skin has become remarkably clear except for a few days

around a certain time of the month.

BTW, and I did lose lots of hair from month 2 to month 6. Thankfully it

has stopped and for some reason it is not noticeable at all.

I had hair loss, but no problems with my nails except for dents that I

believe date from the time of surgery and they have just about grown

out. I had dry spots across my shoulders and upper back that itched a

lot after surgery, but they are gone now too. The only breakouts were

on the top of my scalp (weird). And that seems to have cleared up too.

Gail & Joann, I had severe break outs on my face, behind my ears, and

on my neck and chest. I also had black hairs sprouting up all over my

abdomen.

I did not go to the doctor. I just figured it was some form of

hormonal imbalance. Everything cleared up in 2 months. Sometimes I

still get a rash on my face, but it clears within a week.

Sincerely,

Yup. But that was only my own personal experience. And, I had lost

my hair some 25-30 years ago.

I am 14 weeks post op and my hair is falling out in clumps! I went to a

support group meeting last night and they assure me it will grow

back...eventually. I guess the time frame is different for everyone....but I

don't think we will actually go bald. But, I think I would rather wear a wig

then be the weight I was 14 weeks ago!

Karla,

Think of it this way: when you lose weight, all of you gets

smaller--shrinks. Think about all of those poor hair follicles,

crowded to the max on a shrinking pate. What are they to do? So,

many (many more than is necessary, but such is the fate of lemmings)

take a dive off the deep end to get some breathing space. Once you

stop shrinking, the survivors say, " Oh goodie. Now we have the whole

place all to ourselves. So, they multiply in droves. "

If you buy that, I have some neat Everglades recreational lots for sale. . .

--Steve (well, it's only Friday, but I try to create April Fools Day)

P.S. My follicles took the dive 30+ years ago, but the survivors

never multiplied.

Kris,

Please let us know if you learn any more about this rash. The best

explanation for me so far is that it is hormones that were stored in fat

cells. I guess they come out as we lose the weight. I'm glad I learned

before I had that punch biopsy done. I was not looking forward to that.

Thanks,

Joann in Mobile

Everyone -

Thanxs for your response!! I just want to be prepared

& armed for these types of things when I become

post-op.

I was nervous that this might have been a " dumb "

question, now I am glad I asked it.

love,

gail

I also have recently acquired a skin rash on my face, forehead and a little

on my neck. Looks kind of like a heat rash and is a little itchy at times.

One surgeon said it could be due to a Vitamin A deficiency -- just in the

process of figuring out what to do/clear it up/prevent a reoccurence. Just

wanted you to know you're not alone and I've heard of others with it, as

well.
