Guest guest
Hi Wow I can really relate to your story its a lot like mine. WHen my son was born 03/20/05 I was on the phone with my husband letting him hear his son for the first time he is also over seas not in the military but he was deported (thats another story in itself) anyways I was telling him what a beautiful boy we had and I could see all the nurses and the three family members that were with me when I delivered him looking at him across the room talking about something and saying dont worry her with it now, well of coarse I'm all emotional as it is crying to my husband because he cant be there and all the emotions that come along with having a baby anyway I demand to know what they are talking about. They bring Noah to me and show me his foot. The nurse says its nothing a lot of babies come out like this and it will straighten on its own. My aunt laughs and says " ya its because your so tiny and you pushed that big old thing out of you what did you expect. So I feel a little better. At 3:00 am an orthopedic comes in my room and wants to look at the foot. he shows me that it can bend back to a normal position and says for me to exercize it daily and by 2 months it will be fixed otherwise they will refer me to an orthopedic sergen. I say ok still think its no big deal. 2 months go by with no improvement at all I go to the orthopedic where he still never diognosis it as club foot instead says that he will cast it and about 3-4 casts he will be fine. He puts on the cast about 2 inches below the knee and sends me and Noah on our way. Well it didnt look right but I figured they know what they are doing. He told me to soak the cast off the night before my next appoinment, I did that and there was a slight improvement but by morning the foot was back to how it looked before any treatment. I go and theres a different doctor this time, (trying to see the same doctor twice at Kaiser is impossible) this doctor doesnt even touch Noah foot instead sits on the chair with his clip board and watches the cast guy put on the cast. I go home and 20 min later Noah had kicked off the cast. In the meantime I started searching the web for answers because I just didnt feel good about what they were doing. I found out and that my son had club foot by myself from looking at pictures on the internet of children with club feet and they looked very similar to my son's feet. I went back to the doctor and asked him about this he said ya it might be club foot. He puts another cast on him another short leg one and the whole cast turns in with his foot. I asked how can this be straightening his foot when the whole thing turns in? He said it is inside the cast. I asked him how long do you think this will take to correct? he said well I dont know we dont do enough of these for me to answer that. That right there told me I needed to do some major research and find my son a doctor that knew what he was doing. I found doctor Ponseti and I have been e-mailing him and I'm going there next week all the way to Iowa fr him to treat my son. I'm so excited and cant wait until this is all over and my baby has a normal foot like all the other little boys. He is 4 months old now, if Kaiser would have had a little more knowledge of club foot he probubly would be healed by now. So has your husband come home yet? did you send him lots of pictures? Its so hard when they can't be with you, I dont know when my husband will be home we are still working on it but its not easy these days. Well sory this is so long and you though you wrote a novel!
