Guest guest
It's an AFO with a soft molded insert that is attached to Dr. Dobbs new articulating bar. The bar itself is hinged, which allows for more mobility. I'm not sure why he's using the AFO's but a few children here on this list use them. You can actually use the Markell shoes on the bar that Dr. Dobbs uses but about (maybe...) 8 months ago he started using the AFO instead. At least one parent here used them initially after troubles with the Markells (problems solved with the AFO's) but then switched back to the Markells after the feet were better suited for the shoes. In your case, I would imagine it's not the shoes causing the problem but the foot itself. I wonder perhaps if his foot started relapsing back when you started having problems and this is why it's slipping out? I would hazard a guess that this is what was happening especially if he'd been perfectly fine up till then. At least you're with a good doc who isn't totally blaming the shoes and who knows how to treat relapses. This happens occasionally and the casting will surely take care of the relapse but you will have to be very diligent with the bracing from now on and as soon as you notice slipping at all get him back to Dr. Dobbs for a checkup. It is however extremely hard to keep a relapsed or uncorrected foot in the shoes so don't beat yourself up about any time he hasn't been able to wear them. I doubt you could have done more than you have with a problematic fit like that. You aren't alone, I'm sure someone will pop up with info about dealing with relapse casts. Hope you like the new brace, parents seem to love it. Although I would still like to see 's shoes on Dr. Dobbs brace over the AFO. Personally I'm not sure I'd really want the articulating brace because it looks like it'd tear up my hardwoods LOL! Guest guest
Hi , You can see photo's of the Dobbs Brace in the " Photos " section of this group. Just look under " Addie " or " Dobbs Brace " . Were you treated by another St Louis area Dr. before you started with Dr. Dobbs? Guest guest
Thank you SO MUCH!! I should have thought to look there. It makes it so much easier to explain to my husband. We have been going to Dobb's since Westley was 6 days old. Thank goodness. I am really happy with his care. :-) > > > We went to shriner's today and saw dr. dobb's...as Westley (17 > > > months) has been having a heck of a time with the regular > > shoe/brace > > > combo. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your reply. I think that you could be right about the left foot relapsing and that is why we had so much trouble. It makes sense. His left foot was more severe from day one anyway. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. :-) > > > We went to shriner's today and saw dr. dobb's...as Westley (17 > > > months) has been having a heck of a time with the regular > >shoe/brace > > > combo.
