Guest guest
I didn't much care for Christie's story. But her story did illustrate what happens when someone is not emotionally equipped to deal with the weightloss. Christie never had any self confidence and was sexually abused as a child. As a single mom newly slim and still very young she did not know how to prioritize the benefits of wls. I love how Lifetime did this story but did nothing to try to get Christie the help she so obviously needed. Now that they've made their buck on advertising you would think that they could spare a little of it getting Christie into counseling, job training and parenting classes. Living in a town with an extremely high unemployment rate with little or no prospect of finding a job and being stuck on welfare will bring down the best of people let alone someone who already suffers from a low self esteem. What I did like about the story is that it illustrates how hard and sometimes dangerous it can be to go it alone. Lying in bed for 3 days with no water and no help is a scary thing. I am just glad that she made it through that. I feel extremely lucky about my recovery looking at the hard time she had. Even at the worst part of my reovery I could get to the kitchen and get the bathroom by myself. I hope that after her suffering that Surgeons will realize how important it is for low-mobility wls patients to have a home health aide when released from the hospital. Guest guest
Meli, I, too, watched " Christie's Story. " I believe the point of it was that Christie's weight problem was not the cause of her other problems, but a symptom and result of deeper sociological and psychological problems. The WLS (could have been RNY) may have helped her lose weight and improve her life physically, at least initially, but because she wasn't able or willing to change other aspects of her life, she was right back on the path of self-destruction. If you noticed, toward the end of the program, she was putting weight back on, and, even more tragically, her young daughter seemed to be starting down the same path of depression and weight gain.
