Hi Marsha,

Thankfully our insurance covers 100% but we get a statement for what

they cover and its around $127 for the bar and the shoes. About $60

for each.

Elijah is 16 months old and just got his third pr of shoes about a

month ago.

I think I'm going to duct tape Darbi's feet to a bar and take a

picture so y'all can send that to your insurance companies who won't

pay for shoes. You can tell them this is the only other option for

you if they won't accept that the shoes MUST be used with the bar and

they should cover it. Y'all can tell them that there is an option

for special adhesive tape which won't cost much and you will send

them the bill for the special tape. I will be charging $90 for the

adhesive tape plus shipping.

hummm... maybe I should just take pictures of how to screw her feet

to the bar and charge $200 for at home surgical screws?

grrrr....

O.k. That helps. Good to know he's only on pair #3. I guess with the open toe

they last a while. I know my dd's toes are past the end on her shoes already

though. I hope we don't need another pair today when we go to the ortho....still

have to pay for the first pair. UGH. This sucks. Insurance companies are idiots

sometimes. Cracks me up too that we have to pay a $30 copay every time we see

the dr./get a cast/etc. So her treatment thus far has cost us probably around

$300 (add $30 to that because we have another appt. today), but we could have

had surgery done and there would have been a $100 copay for the hospital visit

and follow-up visits would have been free (since they would be surgical follow

ups). I hate dealing with this stuff......

Thanks for the info though!

There you go. I asked the lady on the phone what I was supposed to do with the

bar if there were no shoes to screw it to. Like you say, screw it to her feet?

WTH? It's too bad it can't be sold as a single unit - not the bar and shoes

seperately, know what I mean? Then I'm sure it'd be covered....Anyone else on

here deal with Cigna insurance? Any special person I can talk to who has maybe

helped you to get this approved?

We've never had to deal with this since we get the shoes and bars from Shriner's

(though we have had to deal with getting them to give us the RIGHT sizes...),

but I looked it up in our insurance booklet. They will not pay for any orthotic

shoes *unless* they are attached to a bar. Also, they will not pay for more

than one set of AFOs per calendar year, if we needed the s then , we'd

have to have Jonah take up smoking and coffee drinking to stunt his growth.

Folks can buy the high-precision abduction-measuring device (a protractor) from

me for, oh, $50. Instructional course on using it is extra.
