Guest guest
Thanks for the bankruptcy info. I only have one that's not a doctor bill and that one is a credit card. You don't give credit to a shopaholic! LOL I have to see what I will owe on the next round of mri's that run about $5,000 each. They really jacked the price on them in the last couple years and I get two twice a year. I'll have to wait til Medicare tells me what is the allowable amount & then see what 20% of that is. At least the hospital I go to has charity money if you're poor enough. LOL Thanks for the offer of duct tape. I have a couple of rolls here and have been know to use it on generic Depends that are a bit small. Guest guest
So glad you had a good day! In the area of Ohio & here in Northern KY they're mostly called "skeeters". The bites I hated worst when I was a kid & we sat in the grass & they bit right where the elastic in your underwear was. Then you had to walk around trying not to scratch in public it was awful. Guest guest
Growing up in Wisconsin we called the 'water feature' in our schools bubblers and when we moved to Illinois they called them water fountains. I asked somebody where the bubbler was once and they looked at me like I was from Pluto. Once when visiting Iowa for a conference there were people there who thought we were from England from our accents. We thought that was really weird. I mean we're only a couple of states away. Last night after posting about skitters I went back to lay down and watch tv and believe it or not a movie called Skeeter was just coming on....about giant mutant mosquitos. How weird is that?! ...maybe we should count our blessings, hey? ....lol. hugs S. wrote: So glad you had a good day! In the area of Ohio & here in Northern KY they're mostly called "skeeters". Guest guest
Out here in sunny hot California- the skeeters are carrying West Nile Virus, so we "soup" up to go spend the evening in the apple orchard. I have no idea where I came up with that terminology ( says I created it from my sarcworld) LOL! We took a drive out through the rice fields last weekend, and the front of the truck was black with them-- all with that same look on their tiny little faces! Ya know the one: Like deer caught in headlights! Oh well, this time of year, we join with Minnesota as those bloodsuckers become the state bird. Guest guest
Bubblers? That's interesting; I've never heard that! Regional accents can be tricky. I used to know a guy from southern Pennsylvania who sounded a bit British. I don't know if it was just him, or a regional thing. Ramblin' Rose Moderator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
I am terrified about West Nile virus! I used to talk to a man online who was misdiagnosed and had the virus. Unfortunately the days before they got it right he had some permanent damage. I have nightmares about mosquitos getting me.Join our Sock Challenge for Orphans in Kazakhstan - 265 pairs needed by 9/15/07 http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/Mittens_ for_Akkol/ grannylunatic@... Guest guest
I am terrified about West Nile virus Best solution I've found is the Lemon-Eucalyptus spray. It's natural, no chemicals and keeps them away. We make sure to go around and empty any standing water anywhere in the yard or orchard. Turn the wheelbarrows upside down, and add fresh water daily, letting it overflow in the birdbath-- that way you don't get the scum on the top of the water that makes it so they can hang around as larvae. You can actually add a small amount of bleach into a tree trunk that has a wound-- and that keeps them out of there- even if rain fills the wound (hole) up. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Tracie. I live in an apartment building and don't get out much. There's pretty much a parking lot & a couple of trees in the front of the building. My windows don't open & I couldn't handle the heat we had this summer. I will keep the info for my daughter. She lives in a house & I go over there sometimes. She emptied here above ground pool early. We're so behind in rain this year there isn't much of a chance of a puddle. Rose Have you ever heard of people calling ghosts "haints"? That's what my grandmother used to call them. My other grandmother called milk that was going bad "blinky".
