Guest guest
Well, since I have decided I want this surgery, I have not gone and read any of the list of posts on fatalities. But, I did read on one of my lists (not sure which one) that most of those fatalities were people who had yet to get their surgery and died from MO complications. Is that true? Also, I would think that most of those who may have had surgery and died had the RNY, OR possibly had the surgery years ago before it was perfected. Or maybe they were just too MO and had too many complications to begin with to do the surgery. Or maybe they chose a surgeon who didn't really have much experience? Does anyone know if anyone had the DS specifically and died? At any rate, this is a chance we all have to take. Life is a chance and a gamble. All I know is, I am sick and tired of battling this weight issue in this life. In fact, if we come back " again " (reincarnation), I will not re-up for another obese lifetime! :-) I am willing to take the chance. Crossing over, whether on the other side of surgery here or somewhere else.....it seems to me to be a gamble I want to take. Of course, I am way far from having this done, but I feel sure that I will go through with it. I will just follow the road and hope the opportunity opens up for me in insurance approval, time off work, etc. and then I won't allow myself to think all the negative thoughts about what " could happen " or even about the pain. I figure I can get pain meds until my body heals enough that I can stand it. I also feel pretty sure I will be ok. I know that is not a guarantee. But I feel ready for this chance, no matter what. Guest guest
Yes, WLS is major surgery. And morbidly obese folks have a high risk of complications or death. Diets don't work for the morbidly obese. Period. There are things that each person can do to diminish their operative risks. The risk of early death and complications from being MO is great. Major problem, MO, drastic solution. Would be interesting to know how many people here lost weight down to being a normal weight and regained the weight plus some. I have, several time. I wanted a permanent solution. The DS is a permanent solution. I eat normal foods and lose weight. Only difference it that regaining it is not a problem. Good luck and can really understand your concern. in Seattle > Wow. > > > Admittedly, it's difficult sometimes to know how many died as a > direct result of the surgery, but for sure, some did. > > I just kept putting myself in their situations, reading their posts > before they died....they sounded just like I do now.
