Guest guest
What size sandal is she wearing? If possible, please send either or me a photo of her sore. I *think* perhaps she got a blister in the first couple of weeks she wore them. I didn't really notice but mom said she noticed it before she put her shoes on the weekend the kids were all gone. So that would mean I put them on too loose. It was loose skin on her heel, looked like a popped blister to mom. No fluid just skin. Mom mentioned it to me a few days after I'd got them home and I said yes, I saw it too. Of course it was more of a sore then and I didn't even think to ask what it looked like to mom till this afternoon. So now I have the info that it was a blister. I'd thought she put them on too loose that weekend but it now looks like it was me and I totally missed it. I have been trying to heal it ever since. Nothing I do helps other than not wearing the shoes. Every time I put them back on no matter how tight I make them or what I put over it to cushion it... it's worse the next morning and she cries in the middle of the night and says owie. I have taken them off at night I don't know how many times because I know it's hurting and I can't do anything about it. Same last night, I took them off at about 4am so her and I could sleep. She tried, but kept waking up. When I looked at her foot this morning it was again red and angry and even bigger. It was almost healed yesterday (like I haven't seen that before...) and I made it worse again last night. She's so not happy with these shoes! That must be why she never liked them in the first place. I am thinking it was me, but it could be partially a problem with the shoe itself. The left one is the one that the tongue slips out all the time and it doesn't line up properly like the other shoe does. Something's weird either with the fit of her left foot or the shoe has something wrong but it really does not fit like the other one does at all. Today I marked on a bandaid where the sore was with a crayola marker and stuck her foot into the shoe to see where it's hitting. I will take pics tonight. I gotta go right now. But it's the part where the bottom of the leather in the back pushes into the heel area. Right above the thicker part of the insole at the heel. Basically the exact place she got a sore from her first pair of Markell's. But a bit to the side inside the shoe. So I'm about to chop out that back area but I worry the edge will make things worse. I suppose I should call and get his input before I start chopping them up. She's not going to wear them tonight. I may even put her back in her Markell's. If that doesn't work I might just chop out the heel in those since I know they will hold up. Any ideas? I've done all the things I could think of short of making a heel hole already, I feel lost with this now... Kori

Guest guest
Hey Todd! So glad you're here. I need to put the kids to bed right now but since you're online right now I wanted to let you know that I will take pics of her foot right now before I put her to bed and also the inside of the shoe where the mark showed up on. She's in probably your largest ones yet made. She wears a size 5-1/2 or 6 in regular shoes and just got these about 2 months ago. They are the ones you sent to Portland Shriners, the first pair seen here. I will email you photos here as soon as I can. Tonight for sure. But a bit later because I can't right now. Thanks for posting and maybe you want to join our CFPics list where we can send attachments by email to the group. I dont have the url handy right now but just go to yahoo and search for CFPics, it'll come up. Let me know who you are in the comments section when you subscribe and I'll approve you without the survey filled out. Make sure your settings are for individual emails if you want to see these baby feet. Be aware, we send pics of faces too. Not high traffic. Guest guest
Kori, Call now!!! I'm getting a new pair of P/M's today that he is sending overnight because 's heels never healed! Remember it was like a month ago got her blisters and they continued to get worse. She has a hole in her heel like 1/8 " deep that is raw and she cries everynight, but I was too afraid to take the shoes off. Finally, the other day, I called and asked him if he had any ideas why this was happening. I sent him pictures. He felt soooooooo bad. He is sooooo nice and caring. He said he is trying to make them feel better not worse. He was so upset about what was going on with . He also brainstormed with Dr. Ponseti to see if they could figure out what the problem was. I personally think the back rubber part that goes up the calf leans in too far and creates a bump where it starts to taper (if that makes sense). Even though the inside is smooth, if you pinch the inside and outside back together you can feel a little bump. I am getting the new pair today. He said he thinks he knows what is going on and plans to fix it. I sent him pictures of her heels, the shoes by themselves, especially close up of the heel area, and in them. If you are having the same problem, call ASAP. He will want to know about it and fix it. I am at home today if you want to call me for more details. I left a lot out so this didn't turn into a novel. . Good luck!

But she asks for them off and cries... she's old enough to say what she wants and what's wrong. She can tell me where it's hurting. So I've been taking them off at night. I took them off night before last and then put them back on in the am till about 1:30pm and of course, the sore was worse again. Had another scab and then she picked it off and it bled. ugh! > Finally, the other day, I called >and asked him if he had any ideas why this was happening. I sent him >pictures. I never should have bought those cheap CD's... I was in the process of sending them to Todd when Darbi woke up and needed her shoes off. So I had her go potty and then had to lie with her and nurse so she'd go back to sleep. I fell asleep with her till about 3:30am when I got up to finish sending the email... and found the ones of her left shoe where it shows how the top strap simply does not line up with either the buckle or the tongue are gone... ugh!! > I personally think the back >rubber part that goes up the calf leans in too far and creates a bump where >it starts to taper (if that makes sense). Oh, you have no idea how much sense this makes. I think this too. Darbi's got nicely formed heels and they just do not sit back into the pocket well at all. I will send some of the pics to CFPics here in a bit. It is quite the shelf or bump where it goes back in. She's not having issues with the other foot but sometimes it does look a little red in the back. Then again, she's got a scar the size of Texas there from her first sore and it gets red easily anyway. > Even though the inside is >smooth, if you pinch the inside and outside back together you can feel a >little bump. I am getting the new pair today. He said he thinks he knows >what is going on and plans to fix it. He will want to >know about it and fix it. I am at home today if you want to call me for >more details. I left a lot out so this didn't turn into a novel. I might just do that. And I did email Todd last night so they know what's going on. I totally am not going to call Portland Shriners about this, first off they'd have no idea what to do. And second... like I want them to think there's anything wrong with the PM's in the first place! For whatever it's worth, that bandaid with the Crayola marker on it did a nice job of leaving a mark in her shoe so I could see what part was the problem. I got the idea when my kids colored on some glove balloons (like the hospitals give the kids) and everything in the house that the balloons touched (including the floor and the kids) got ink all over. Perfect impression tool lol! Thanks , I was seriously hoping Sara had healed by now so I could have some hope. Darbi is older, and I don't feel as uncomfortable leaving her out of her shoes for part of a night or a night here and there but if she was younger I probably would. However, the problem that I can see is that with a sore like we're dealing with... any pressure in the sore area will be a problem. That's what I ran into with the Markell's. Even when we made the shoe as smooth and soft as it could possibly be... every time I put them back on it just made the sore worse. It wasn't till we cut the hole and let the sore dry out and heal with absolutely no pressure on it at all that it finally healed. From the time she got her shoes and the sore and when it was finally healed with some skin was 8 weeks! The first 3-4 was when I made and kept aggravating the sore. The next 4... healing. If Sara's is THAT bad (poor little girl! That's what Darbi's was like and her scar is larger than any tenotomy scar I've seen) it may not heal if she goes back into the shoes. If you don't see some improvement in the next few days on that sore with the new shoes you're going to have to do something else. And I can't see anything working except removing the entire back end of the insole if this is the case. Remember the sore I told y'all about on the top of Darbi's foot where she fell? It's better... but she STILL has a red mark where the sore was. Red enough that it shows still about 2mo's later. OK - I am going to send some pics to CFPics and then go in and try again to take pictures of Darbi and her shoes to send to and Todd. And then I'm going to call them, and then call you. And then I have to clean my refrigerator! Thanks for writing, it's too bad I waited this long to contact or speak up on the list. I don't know why... probably because I expected so much more from these shoes it was hard to admit there was a problem. I'll go ahead and post my phone number here, hoping there aren't wackos out there who will call me. In case anyone else out there wants to call me. Well no, I'll post my cell phone # instead lol! Guest guest
Hey Kori, sorry your daughter is having such a hard time. I know that it has something to do with the heel thing b/c well I never really noticed this until I think it was that brought it up. also has a red spot on the back of her heel that I noticed when brought this all up. But when all this happened for some reason her left shoe tore in 2 places from the " rubbery thing " so sent me a new one and what I noticed was that the old shoe (her right one) she gets the red spot but on the new left shoe her foot is fine. So maybe he did something different? Her spot gets red but has never turned into a blister or got much worse than just being red but there must be somenthing going on with this are b/c I looked at the pictures you put up and her red spot is in the same spot as Darbi's but only on her right foot(the old shoe). Iwould love to know what yuo all find out. Like I said her does not get worse than just being red. I noticed the shoes being different when i got one new shoe and had one old one. I compared them and the tongue on the new shoe is alot bigger. And the straps are wider also. The rubbery part that runs on the back heel looks the same but for some reason the old shoe gives her a red spot. Who knows? Oh, you have no idea how much sense this makes. I think this too. Darbi's got nicely formed heels and they just do not sit back into the pocket well at all. I will send some of the pics to CFPics here in a bit. It is quite the shelf or bump where it goes back in. She's not having issues with the other foot but sometimes it does look a little red in the back. Then again, she's got a scar the size of Texas there from her first sore and it gets red easily anyway. > Even though the inside is >smooth, if you pinch the inside and outside back together you can feel a >little bump.
Who knows? It does not seem to bother her so anything you all find out please pass along. Guest guest
Kori, Okay, I was waiting for your phone call all day! LOL, just kidding! I got the new P/M's and he did change the back and I truly think they are going to be better. I too held off complaining (again) about the sores because I didn't want to be bothersome over a blister, especially since I already complained about it to the list a month ago. Anyhoo, so far is sleeping, not a peep! They feel like there is no bump and it is hard for me to explain how they are different. They look identical, but somehow in the back where the problem was, it isn't as overlapped as much (this is making no sense). It is amazing how a little minor thing can create such havoc. I am sending her old pair back so he can compare and see what I was talking about. is so nice, he sent a note with the new shoes apologizing again for 's heels. I feel guilty complaining about it. I don't know why. I'm sure there are other more serious problems is facing right now. Although, this was pretty bad, I still feel guilty, probably because he is so nice and cares. I hope Darbi's situation gets fixed really quick too. By the way, who is Todd?
Guest guest
I'm so sorry ! I picked up the phone twice to call and all hell broke loose with the kids and I never did even get to call him. Now it'll be too late. Get this... Darbi asked for her shoes tonight. So I put them on. Every time I put them on it gets nasty again. And yes, there is a hole/scab in the middle. I should have called him, I might have new shoes by Monday if I had. Oh well, I'll make sure to call tomorrow. And also try to call you! I feel really bad about that! Will let y'all know what he says tomorrow. Thanks for making me call. The news about Sara's shoes working so well now really gives me hope.
