The s were designed for the hard to treat atypical foot. As

I understand, theyre more of a sandal than a boot. I guess since

the s have just recently been used, most insurances dont

cover the cost for them. Our Markells go for about $137 for the

boots and a bar where the s run about $350.

as someone else said, the brace is fairly new, designed

originally, as I understand it, for difficult (atypical) or very small?

feet, that were hard to keep in the brace. they include a velcro type

sandal.

the Markell shoe brace, the old standby, is still very effective and

used on many, many kids, including my child. She is a patient of Dr.

Ponseti, and her brace is from Iowa. She's on her 5th pair of Markell

shoes on it, and we never have had a blister or any sort of adjustment

or discomfort problem in all the years she's had it. it has worked very

well for us, as it has for many kids.. the main thing is to have ea

brace that holds the feet in the position needed to prevent relapse,

and that is accomplished with both braces.

hope this helps.. I'm sure others with experience with the s

will pipe in! they sound great.. but I'd say, if you are not having any

problems, don't worry about making a change.

thanks for that correction, Kori.. oops.. (shows I shouldn't describe

something I don't have direct experience with..) I was trying to get

across the idea of the shoe as different from the white boots, more

like the Tevo type, velcro sandals that so many kids have .. but it was

a bad way to put it!
