Guest guest
Lori, I'm not sure if this would appeal to you or not but many states, Hawaii being one, have public charter schools where you school your children at home. They provide the materials, computer and a teacher for assistance and you school your children in a way that meets their needs. If you chose this method your daughters would be able to study and do school no matter where you are in your travels. Just a thought... Chris Re: Elijah update ~ Markells not staying on , I would consider it if we were still on summer break. The girls are already going to miss alot of school when we make our PCS to Hawaii. When we moved from San Diego to here, they'd missed so much time that the school wanted to fail them. I cant risk taking them out of school for that amt. of time. Im still waiting to hear from the Dr, no phone call yet for the referral. In the meantime, Im going to check out the Shriners Hospital in New Orleans. Elijah is finally napping for the first time today ( at 2 PM ). By this time he's working on his second nap for the day. He's still tolerating the shoes OFF the bar pretty well. I know I mentioned that his last right boot was ripped from the sole. Thats how hard he wriggles to get out of it. Has anyone else had a boot come off the sole like that? It makes me wonder if its not that he's relapsing so much as he's just fighting this bar (and winning it seems). Guest guest
I appreciate the suggestion. As a mom of four, the last two only being 19 months apart, I wouldnt be able to handle home schooling and deployments and everything else. God knows I love 'em but I need a break sometimes! Guest guest
Lori, If I were close enough I'd totally watch them for you. Is there anyone who can take them for the time you'll need to be away so they can stay in school? I totally hear you with the breaks... I only have 3 and I have become the mom who is perfectly happy to see them drive away with their grandparents for the weekend, or even for a few hours! I am SOOOO looking forward to next year when both boys are in school till 3pm (all day kindergarten, yay!). I can't wait till it's just me and Darbi alone at home all day. Dh will be here a lot of the time too because his new job allows him to work from home. Oh what will I do with myself?? Probably clean! hehe... Are you in GA? Is there anyone here (Faith maybe?) who could help you out with the kids? Sorry Faith, I don't mean to volunteer you but I remember you saying you were in Atlanta with your mom before... And why the heck are your kids in school already? It's still summer!! We don't start till after Labor Day here. That's always September. Do they get out in March or is it just a really long school year? Kori At 12:33 PM 8/4/2005, you wrote: > > >I appreciate the suggestion. Guest guest
oh, I just thought of something... since you're starting so early maybe the schools in HI don't start till later and perhaps they'd be right in line for that school year there even if you did take them out of school? Just a thought... There's got to be some way to get you some help with this. I feel for you, it's got to be very difficult to be alone with 4 kids when dh is away. I don't know how you military wives do it... hugs, Kori At 12:44 PM 8/4/2005, you wrote: >Lori, > >If I were close enough I'd totally watch them for you. Guest guest
Kori, The few friends that we've made here have either already transferred out or they already have so much going on in their own lives that I couldnt begin to ask them to take on my load. Our nearest family member is 4 hours away, my mom. She works for a college and its registration time so she cant leave. Drew's family isnt an option. However, he has a grandmother in Missouri that might consider coming down. But due to her age and the ages of the kids she'll be watching, I wouldnt want to put that on her. I wouldnt know what to do with a break. Drew hasnt even been home a full year before shipping out again. Granted its only a month but you can count on one thing. When he leaves, SOMETHING falls apart. I was supposed to get two wks away to visit a friend in CA after his deployments last year and I didnt get that. I settled for getting a weekend away and got screwed out of that too. LOL~ Im not in GA, Im in Mississippi, on the coast. Schools starts for us August 4th but they get out early, around the last week of May. Lori

Guest guest
Kori, Another good idea! We already checked into this b/c I didnt want to put the kids in school for 2 months only to take them out. Most of the schools in Hawaii start about the same time we do here. Others go year round and might be doable but we wouldnt know which school they would attend until we get over there and they tell us which school district we'll be in. I really do appreciate all the ideas on this and I dont want anyone to feel like Im just shooting 'em down for the heck of it. Its definately a tough spot to be in. Guest guest
I wouldn't have minded at all , but since April I've been reunited with my hubby in Utah (Had been waiting in Ga for him to get reassigned from Guam). Besides, it's a 3 hour drive in itself form Albany to Atl and my family is rather inhospitable. frogabog wrote:Lori, If I were close enough I'd totally watch them for you. Guest guest
Lori, I thought I had sent this but for some reason don't see it.. so if I'm repeating myself I apologize! I hope you aren't feeling bombarded .. Please bear with us as we brainstorm with you.. we want to help! I see this as a narrow window of time, before your move, in which you can get things back on track, nonsurgically, if Elijah has indeed relapsed. Otherwise you might be looking at a tendon transfer, or other surgery, later on, in Hawaii, and your son will be only that much older, options more limited, and traveling anywhere back mainland even harder. My thought is.. if you call Iowa and talk to them about the insurance issues, to see what they could work out.. then get in the car with ALL your kids.. and stay at the RMH .. You might only need to be there 10 days or so, if all Elijah needs is a couple of casts, and you could leave with a brace to take to Hawaii. Could the kids miss that much school? There are other doctors you could try to travel to see.. but if you have to travel anyway, and with Elijah already as old as he is, not to mention with a difficult foot.. there just isn't anyone better than the docs in Iowa to treat him. Even though the logistics seem insurmountable, why don't you call and see what can be worked out. I bet there are others who have gone there who had military insurance. This is all just my gut reaction .. written in a hurry,. HOpe I haven't been insensitive! I know it's got to be hard figuring out how the heck to manage all this.. with concern and best wishes,

Guest guest
Thank you , I dont feel bombarded. I welcome all the ideas, thats why I came to the board. Ive done what I know to do and a relapse is unchartered territory for me. Ive been thinking that if they'll fly me to MD to see Herzenberg then they should send me to Ponseti in Iowa. Whoever I see will have to be willing to take Tricare. I refuse to unenroll him from Tricare Prime. (no offense at all Faith) Im just not comfortable w/ that idea. I tried to catch the Ortho clinic at Keesler before they closed to find out who their patient rep. is. I'll do that first thing in the morning. I'll also call Ponseti about taking Tricare. Im taking pics tonight and will post them on the CFpics board when I get them all together. I think I found another problem while taking pics. His bar is set at 5 deg dorsiflexion. His foot is neutral at best. Thats why he's screaming when the bar is on and is okay just cruising around in the shoes off the bar so whatever happens, I know we'll be doing another tenotomy. I cant take the kids out of school at all. Not only do they need to be there, but if theyre with me, thats 3 other kids that I have to maintain WHILE going thru all the castings and visits and staying away from home. Traveling with this many kids ISNT pretty. Anyone that might come with me to help might as well just stay here and take care of them here. When I find out more about who I'll end up seeing and where they are, I'll start putting the calls out to family that might be willing to come here to help. Again, thanks to everyone. I dont know what Id do if I were alone in this. Guest guest
Lori, Ponseti takes TRicare, that's not the issue. The problem is with Tricare Prime, you can only see (as it was explained to me) in-network providers in your area. This is why I went with TRicare Standard. With T.S. you can see ANYONE. You can self-refer. For In-network providers you pay " 20% of allowable charges " which isn't much with non-network providers you pay a little more. Ponseti isn't in your region and isn't a network provider. Your only option for non-network out of area is another MTF. With Tricare Prime and a referal you don't co-pay, period. You only co-pay with Standard. If you see non-network in Tricare Prime, they will more than likely reject your claim all together. Lori and Elijah wrote:Thank you , I dont feel bombarded.
