Hi Everyone....I've been in and out of the group the last week. I've been trying to get caught up on stuff. I am having surgery next Tuesday the 18th to reconstruct my left thumb joint. I had the right done 4 years ago so I am really not looking forward to it. Also saw a ortho that is the best "knee" guy in Eville and he say he really tries hard not to touch a knee of someone with Sarc so I am wearing a huge brace on my left knee. As crazy as it looks it is helping. I am sure being layed up for a week or so will also help it to. My granddaughter is coming to stay with me for a week or so to help. I am sure it won't be as bad as I am anticipating...well, at least I hope it isn't It may be a couple of weeks before I am back up and running on the computer but I'll be back soon.Take careHUGSRuth

Ruth, is this surgery because of arthritis? Did the previous surgery help? I've been wearing a thumb splint for a couple of years, which helps some. I saw a hand surgeon last year, who mentioned surgery, but I was thinking about back surgery at that time, so told him no thanks. According to the xrays he did, my thumb joint is "bone on bone." I've had one attempt at a steroid injection, but the space was too tight to get the needle in. It's getting harder to open jars, even with special tools & grippers, cut my nails, etc.

Rose....my diagnosis is Sarcoid with Arthropathy. I think that equals Sarcoid Arthritis. I started having trouble about 8-9 years ago with my ankles then my knees and it traveled to my hips. I injured my back in my teens so that was an easy spot for it to settle. I don't know when I started wearing hand splints. I know I wore out a few when we were renovating the house. I know I've mentioned that one of my late husbands best friend is a pain specialist. He has injected just about every joint I have and he works miracles, especially on my thumb joints nursing them along. He injected about 8 spots in March and told me to have it done then. I gave in and had the right one done almost 4 yrs ago and although it is a long recovery and PT it worked. I have little pain in that joint now. He took a bone graft out of my wrist and then added a plate and screws. this time he is going to try to do a new procedure where he just puts some sort of plug into the joint. But I may have waited to long for the new procedure . It slips in and out of place and hurts like ********* when it does! So I am as ready as I'll get for this time around. Thanks for the info, Ruth. After I saw the hand surgeon & decided to just get a molded brace (I'd been using OTC splints), the P.T. told me that the surgery is usually very successful, so I may do it sometime. The brace works pretty well when I wear it. During our hot summer my hand would get so sweaty I would take it off. I did cut off the tops of some old socks, then cut a little thumb hole in the side & wear one of those under the brace. It helps, but the little thumb hole quickly stretches out, & my hand still sweats! After a couple of days without the brace, my thumb joint will really start hurting & I can't do much of anything with it. Luckily it's my left hand & I'm righthanded. Now that it's cooled off, I'm wearing the brace all the time, even to sleep, and it's doing okay.

Would you tell me again when the surgery is? Is it same-day surgery? At IU?
