Guest guest
My daughter takes 1 mg and we can up it too 2 mg per day if needed. Melatonin has helped her a lot, she is going to be 3 years old on Friday and from birth never wanted to take naps, she now takes a 1 1/2 hour nap every day. She also would sleep less than 6 hours a night and now she sleeps 9 hours. She is doing a lot better now that she can get the sleep that she need, she is rested and has more energy. I have seen no side effects with this drug. Heidi Mommy of (4) Adeline (almost 3) and Logan (2) and pregnant with number

Guest guest
I have been using melatonin for Jake now 3 mg for about 2 months now - in addition to his clondine. The clondine would not help him fall asleep after use for a year - he is also severely ADD and take 54mg of concerta in the am. The combination of the clondine and melatonin have made a big difference and allows him to fall asleep. Jake is 11 1/2 with mild mito also. I also just started cole (NDA) on 3 mg he is 7 1/2 as he is also ADD and since he started medication a month and a half ago has had a hard time falling asleep - we started it this week and it seems to be working. Clay the most severely affected of my kids and cole's twin does not need anything at this time to help him sleep. hugsSharonI ran the Marine corps marathon on 10-31-04 and I am running the Las Vegas Marathon on 1-30-05 - If you believe you can do it -- YOU CAN!!! Guest guest
Well, I used Melatonin for my 2 sons briefly. My 5 yo who we think has a mito disorder didn't seem to sleep using it. He's extremely hyper and we tried it when he was 3 1/2. We tried up to 2 mg but it didn't help. My older son who is mildly autistic used it when he was 5 1/2. It did help him sleep but it caused bad dreams with him. The ped did say that some kids have their dreams intensified by using Melatonin. We discontinued it and put him on Clonidine as well. I use Melatonin myself with no side effects. > I have just started using melatonin, with my 2 ½ year old , Zoe. Guest guest
We started using Melatonin for Will (age 3) about a month ago, and it has helped greatly in getting Will to sleep. It used to take 2+ hours to get him to settle down and now we give it and 30 minutes later go through our bedtime routine and he is just about asleep by the time we are done. We are using a 2.5 mg sunlingual tablet (he just chews it instead) and he has done very well. It so far has not helped him with staying asleep, but at least he gets to sleep faster. As a side note the week we started it (I think it was the same week) there was an article in Reader's Digest's little medical section about Melatonin possibly helping with migraines (they quoted a study that was done). We have seen a decrease in Will's headaches (not sure if it is the Melatonin or he started Topamax around same time). Well hope that helps J in Colo. Guest guest
Hi there, We started our daughter, Ellie, on Melatonin about 2 months ago. It has really helped her to calm down before bedtime...although we have noticed that if she isn't in bed within about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes of taking it she will have a meltdown and it is as if she hasn't had it at all. Hope this helps!?! KK Mom to Ellie, 3 years old, Complex IV Use of melatonin in toddlers/children, results?? I have just started using melatonin, with my 2 ½ year old , Zoe. Wondering what affects the rest of you have seen, good and bad and what dosage you are using with your children. Just curious if you have time, would love to hear about this further. Thank you!! Guest guest
Suzanne, We used melatonin for about a year or so for Lucas. We were successful to get him to sleep and then after an almost 48 hours without sleep we started him on amitriptyline instead. We used only 200 micrograms = 0.2 mg's. I was a little concerned because of some medical articles which claimed melatonin should be used with caution with asthmatics. Guest guest
I remember that Grace and Zoe are very close in age. We were told to split the pill in half first, to see if that dose worked. It did not. Now we use the full pill (I think it is 3mg). The melatonin does help her fall asleep, but does not maintain sleep. We also are using 4mg of Periactin at night, wich really seems to help. Thankfully she only has spells of sleeplessness, so we use the Melatonin as needed. We use the Periactin for a ton of stuff so that is daily. Best wishes, happy dreams Rock, jazz, country, soul more.
